PACs and AF

Hi I’ve written on here a couple of times. I suffer with predominantly PACs. I’ve had echoes which are normal and seen a cardiologist who told me to just ignore them. I don’t really know my triggers although do find that they worsen round my menstrual cycle. I do get anxious about them which I know can make it worse. One of my major anxieties is that they will suddenly become AF which I’m terrified of getting. Has anybody suffered with PACs which turned into AF if so how many were you getting? My last Holter showed 3%. My cardiologist said they don’t worry until it’s 20%. I think I wouldn’t get so wound up if I didn’t feel them. Think I’m driving my husband mad! Thanks in advance for any advice

Hiya I’m new to this site but I was literally just saying to my partner tonight I swear my palpitations are stronger and a lot more frequent around my period! I’m terrified of it turning into a trip to a&e . Do u mind me asking how old u are I’m 41 soon 😊

It’s awful isn’t it 😫 I’m worried sick with it . After last episode I had I’ve decided to give up wine 😏 decaf basically having a life just until I know for sure this is the dangerous type of tachycardia . Did u have an echocardiogram

ClaraPP profile image
ClaraPP in reply toLillesnhearts

Yeh I’ve had an echo all normal. I only drink one cup of tea a day. I only drink on the weekends my cardiologist told me I didn’t need to give it up as I don’t drink much his best advice was ignore them easier said than done. Is it ectopics you get? Have you seen anyone for it yet?

I go through phases of when I worry more usually when I’m PMSing I start to get anxious about them and what they will lead to but that’s probably because they become more frequent.

Lillesnhearts profile image
Lillesnhearts in reply toClaraPP

Same I came off my antidepressants aswell n that’s when I had my last bad episode so now I’m on bisiopropol and citalopram ! I hope I can have an ablation I’m going to ask anyway. I can’t even imagine a life without all these palpatiions... would b bluddy amazing!

Basically it said one short broad tachycardia episode 9 beats at 190mp plus rare ectopics

ClaraPP profile image
ClaraPP in reply toLillesnhearts

Oh ok I have just had ectopics recorded. I do get occasional sensations of a paid beat which lasts seconds then stops with a thud but they have never been caught on a monitor and again cardiologist didn’t seem concerned as I have no other symptoms

ClaraPP profile image
ClaraPP in reply toClaraPP

It’s a pain trying to catch them isn’t it! It’s took 14 years for me. Everyone saying it’s anxiety, I knew it was more than that. I hope yours calm down and u find something that works for you . I’m going to try magnesium and Epsom salt baths oh n banks n avacados ..

ClaraPP profile image
ClaraPP in reply toContra21

I have tried bisoprolol but didn’t make much difference and my cardiologist advised against it as he didn’t feel they were that bad. So I take magnesium and as others have said on here I think i need to work more in relaxation methods too

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toClaraPP

Teally they didnt help and here i was going to try it! I feel them and some days up to 7 times a day. You?

ClaraPP profile image
ClaraPP in reply toContra21

What works for some people doesn’t work for others you can only go by what you are told by your healthcare professionals and personal experience

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toClaraPP

So how do you cope when they happen and how often do u get them

Dean872 profile image
Dean872 in reply toContra21

I get 500 a night ☹️ Honestly don’t count them as you become obsessed sometimes you can go for days weeks months and then they come back & can be better or worse

Apparently they are soo common

I can relate to how difficult it is to “just ignore” ectopics! I get them frequently at certain points of my cycle as well. Makes sleep difficult, and definitely increases anxiety. My primary doctor and my EP have both told me that they are benign, just a nuisance, etc but sometimes it still feels like the end of the world.

With that being said, having this problem has motivated me to slow down and take my health more seriously. I had always just pushed though and ignored stress and anxiety , but I’ve had to learn to deal with it properly. Meditation and therapy help me cope, as does checking these message boards and being reminded that I’m not alone.

Hope you are able to get some relief from your symptoms!

This is a super old thread, but I just wanted to know if you’ve been able to get yours under control? I’m like you - mine get way worse from ovulation to the first few days of my period. This is a new thing for me. Began having ectopics in 2020 and got so much worse in 2021. 30 years old and mainly have PACs as well. So frustrating and scary!

ClaraPP profile image

Hi sorry to hear you are suffering with them. Mine remain some days worse than others today is a bad day. I find exercise helps but I’ve just learned to live with them as cardiologist told me that they were not a cause for concern.
