Thank you that's very reassuring I had ablation over two years ago which partial worked. I have now been offered AV Node Ablation but really feel this is something I will consider but not yet

Hi Jenny,

I would recommend checking the drug out on this site rxisk.org. The people who run the site are doctors and pharmacologists. They know their stuff! They keep records - open to the public - on any side effects reported.

I don't know anything about the drug you mention, although I've obviously encountered warfarin. I've had issues with drugs I have taken in the past which have been serious, and as a result I am very wary about trying anything new without investigating the side effects first.

I try to remember that a new drugs = profits for pharmaceutical companies, and has probably been brought out as the old one is no longer operating under a profitable license. The new one, could have benefits over the old drug, but it is wise to check whether these are overstated and mask a whole host of side effects which the old drug didn't have.

I think you are very sensible to ask what the advantages are of this new drug over the old one and to consider which you would rather take. It's a balancing act between risks and benefits and side effects which you are and conversely, are not prepared to tolerate.

Think very carefully. Side effects affect quality of life and they matter! It's you who will have to put up with them after all.

I hope this helps you make an informed choice.

Many thanks I have check out Apixaban as you suggested what a very useful site will use to check out any new drugs in the future.

So far no side effects but over the past five years I have found that this may not be the case in three months time.

I could not agree more regarding quality of life.
