Hi

I’m due to have a laparoscopic hysterectomy with BSO for endometriosis , I’m 38 & know this is my only option as I’ve tried everything to control the pain, can anyone tell me their experience after having this surgery as I’m a bit apprehensive

Thanks

Hi Hutchy79. I had the same operation a couple of years ago. The surgery itself was ok. I was a little sore but take the painkillers they offer and try to get up and out of bed as soon as possible to get moving. Once you’re home, try to do some gentle exercise in the morning, like a short stroll and your pelvic floor exercises, but you will find you need to rest in the afternoon. Listen to your body, absolutely no lifting or housework for 6 weeks and remember that, although you may heal quickly on the outside, there is a lot of internal healing to do which takes longer. Any sign of problems, not feeling well or new pain, see your GP. I ignored symptoms and ended up back in hospital for 2 further operations to put things right.

Good luck, take care and I hope you will soon be pain free. X

Thank you so much for the reply.....I’ve had plenty of operation for the endometriosis but nothing as big as this before so I’m trying to prepare myself for it x x

it really is a big decision to make. i am 37 and have just had a tlh rso with excision of stage 4 endo. it is a tough surgery and its important to have a good support network around you but after 3 months i am slowly feeling some benefit from my op. at first they were hoping i could hold off until i was at least 40 and remove both my ovaries but as things progressed i had to have it done sooner rather than later. in the end they left one of my ovaries which i was a little frustrated about but touch wood so far the one they left hasnt caused any issues. i have had a few teary days and even though i have kids it is still emotional not to have the choice anymore. with time im sure it will get easier. make sure u get all your questions answered beforehand. x

That’s exactly how I feel, I’ve got 1 son who’s 18 this year but I’ve had a previous ectopic pregnancy & a miscarriage, it just wasn’t ment to be & I’m now at the point in my life that I don’t want anymore children but to not be able to have that decision and make it so final is what I’m finding quite hard. I do need to have this though as I need my life back x x

i know its not the same for everyone but im really hopeful now its been for the better for me. as you say it has given me my life back. no more worrying about flooding everywhere and although i do still have some niggles its nothing like the chronic pain i was getting before.

I found out at 40 years old I had a 1 in 10 chance of getting pregnant with ivf, that was 8 years ago. I wanted to be able to hold and feed another baby, feel the bond between mother and child once more. My son at the time was 8 years old. It was upsetting and now I’m happy the way that things have turned out as I’m now free to enjoy my second marriage without having to worry about finding a babysitter and my son is at an age where he is becoming more independent. Think of how you can enjoy your life again without having the night feeds or freedom of going away for the weekend. You said you need to get your life back and you will. X

Operation went well, there was something found when doing it that’s had to be sent off for histology so hopefully find that out in next few days, just struggling with pain a bit at the minute x x

Glad it went well. You must ask if u need something stronger for the pain or if u think your meds have run out. Rest as much as possible and take it one step at a time. Big hugs x
