Growing Challenge - Pea Shoots

Who wants to join me to see how each of us get on? This autumn is going to be a first for me. Not sure how it will turn out but I will be growing Pea Shoots and picking them fresh for my salad. No more bagged pea shoots from the supermarket and in the long term will be cheaper and much fresher. The beauty of this is that if you don't have garden or greenhouse it can be grown on a windowsill or balcony.

The information below is taken from checkyourfood.com/ingredien..., which is extracted from Japanese Food Composition Database.

20g Pea shoots contain:

Vitamin K: 56µg - which is 54% of your RDA/RI

Vitamin C: 15.8mg - which is 16% of your RDA/RI

Vitamin A: 68µg - which is 9% of your RDA/RI

Manganese : 0.22mg - which is 8% of your RDA/RI

Folate (B9) : 18.2µg - which is 5% of your RDA/RI

Riboflavin (B2): 0.054mg - which is 5% of your RDA/RI

Not fond of pea shoots. Certainly have lots of nutrition. Good luck with growing some!

Thanks. Looking promising. Shoots just coming through.

Neither was I fond of pea shoots until I grew peas this summer. I used the leaves fresh and are a far superior taste to packaged bags of pea shoots in the supermarket. Hence the challenge not only to get a nutritious food but to see if people can taste the difference. 😋

I grew my own eggplant this year. Hubby and I certainly noticed the difference from store bought eggplant. Super fresh and very tender. Yum.

Growing at home makes you appreciate the difference in flavour and quality compared to supermarket veg.

Picked my first bowl of Pea Shoots about 3 weeks from sowing. The squirrels had other plans but I managed to rescue them before they were all dug up. Really delighted with the results - vibrant with a strong hint of fresh pea flavour.😋
