Is it worth investing in to make my veggie patch and fruit garden idea come true?

Hi,

Depends on what you like to grow and eat and where you are climate wise. I live on the southeast/southwest border of the UK and can grow a fair bit out in the open ground, things like onions, garlic, peas, beans, radish, sweetcorn, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet potatoes plus fruit.

I love growing my own and can be almost self sufficient fruit and vegetables wise from late Spring onwards. I only have a small to medium sized garden in which I grow plants as well as fruit and vegetables. I have just invested in a greenhouse to so I can grow aubergines and other exotic vegetables that do not do well outside.

Enjoy

Yes if you know your climate soil, potential pests and are willing to attend to them regularly. There is a lot to learn so try to find a friend or neighbor who grows and ask what they do. You may need to remediate your soil, to have some products to deter pests. Watering is critical. Timing your crops matters. If you want organic fresh foods this is the very best way to get them. Growing your own is very satisfying. Choose easy to grow crops for your area. Join a garden club and ask for advice. Keep your budget in mind, but it can easily cost more than you might expect. Any kind potatoes, onions, cabbage, beets, carrots, beans, cucumbers and herbs are far easier than tomatoes which require more nutrients, space and have more pests to contend with .
