I’ve been given a bag of high bran rye flour for making a sour dough starter from my local mill. It seemed a little subdued to begin with but now it’s a pretty enthusiastic ferment. The amusing side effect is the unpredictable exploding lid that launches itself with the noise of real ordnance at totally unpredictable moments, making my kitchen a place of unexpected excitement.

I find all sourdough starters to be exciting jpipw, and mine, which is is one of the family, is no exception. It has tempers, tantrums, tears and periods when it's serene and happy doing its own thing in my fridge until I need it. Sometimes i neglect it and it sulks, but usually I can cajole it into being friends again with a little tender loving care. But so far, I haven't had the excitement of an exploding lid. Now this takes things to a whole new level. I'm envious! 👍😀
