I am looking to connect with others who are struggling a little with their drinking. I am trying to go through September without a drink. So far so good, but it is only the 4th and my first weekend is ahead. I also have some counselling each fortnight for another three weeks. Just looking for some mutual connection, motivation and help. Not sure if i am in the right place.
Hi, im on here to get healthier which includes the amount i eat and drink and what i eat and drink, my husband and myself both enjoy a drink on weekends and probably a few too many! I have started a new diet which does not allow for alcohol at all which i am hope to do for two weeks then as my plan changes i can allow a little but nothing like before. I have done really well with my food this week and keep thinking about the weekend coming which is now upon us. And how normally i would be looking forward to a glass of wine or prosecco.... Hey! Who am i kidding... U know i mean a bottle, right! Lol and then another bottle on Saturday night and maybe even a couple of lagers πΎπ. But im determined not to spoil all my hard work this week, i know in the long run it will be worth it. Im just trying to change my pattern of thought, instead of thinking negative wishing i had a glass of wine or feeling like im missing out, i keep telling myself how healthy i am getting, telling myself how well im doing... And i can do this.
So my advice to you my friend is be kind to yourself do other things which you enjoy and give yourself some positive thoughts, remeber why your doing this. Think about something you would really like and at the end of the month when you have completed it without a drink give yourself a pat on the back and reward yourself with whatever it was you wanted.... A nice treat just for you.
Wow! I will come back to reply properly later. Canβt thank you enough for taking the time to reply. To a total stranger. I am surprised and so grateful. Will reply properly later. Thank you thank you
Well thank you for this Shar71 π I'm teetotal so every month is a dry month for me so I can't help you with this Hidden but we will cheer you on in your attempt to have a healthier lifestyle. π

Thank you Jerry. On four so far. No errors. I want to get this in control or teetotal will have to be the only solution.
Thank you for that first and subsequent comments. Quite unexpected but really helpful. I am now on four out of four - my best streak and my most dry nights in a week for two years. Apart from when I am racing. So hanging in there.
Sounds like you are doing great too! Well done you! Eating and drinking goals at once - well done!
Keep it up! I am told days 4,5 and 6 are the toughest. One of those done - I am sure you can nail the next two as well - you sound very strong and positive. You can smash this!
A recovering alcoholic once told me that one of their tips when you are having a strong craving, is to have a hard boiled sweet instead, which I think is a really good one no matter how your relationship with alcohol was.
It's not exactly "healthy eating", it might be worth trying if you do just crave a little something after dinner.
I too struggle with alcohol especially in the evenings. , and sitting here typing that sentence means it makes it a bit more real, but I guess Its good to acknowledge .
I wish you every success for your venture through September. Im afraid a month is too long for me at present, but will certainly cheer you on.
Many thanks. A month is a heck of an ask. My best week in two years has been three dry nights, except for when I am racing, and then it has no attraction for me. On four dry which is a new PB for both a streak and a week. Test will be this weekend.
Could you find something new which you like doing as much or almost as much as racing to do on the days your not racing might help you to keep focused?
Get a jar and put the money in that you would have spent on booze. Get active , distract yourself and do so many things that you go to bed absolutely cream crackered. Don't sit down, move.
