Tongue biting

Just joined for answers and support. For the last six months I have been biting my tongue while talking, which I do a lot of mostly to my self. I will bite my tongue then the next day the tip of my tongue will break out with ulcers and my tongue swells. Then it’s on, I will continue biting my tongue, inside cheeks, and lips.! Extremely painful. If I can cure it with warm salt water, baking soda, or peroxide and it starts to go away within three days sometimes. Then I’ll bite it again and here we go again. I have extreme dry mouth from a medication and I’m sure it doesn’t help. I’ve lost about 25 pounds since this has been going on. I can’t eat it’s hard to swallow and anything in my mouth will hurt. I’ve been to my doctor and he’s has me thanking B12, iron, and prednisone. Hasn’t help at all. I have stopped all meds including supplements. To no avail. I’ve been trying to research and found that a resent root canal and crown on my front eye tooth could be the problem if it through my bite out of alignment. The Dentist that put it in is no longer in the area and the office he practiced in has one dentist and he is only treating patients one day a week so I can’t get an appointment until March. I went to another dentist and had x-rays done and the Dr examined my mouth. As we were discussing the reason why I couldn’t go to the dentist that treated me I explained not only the dentist not being in the area anymore, but also that I had tried to get an appointment with her but she wouldn’t accept my lower paying insurance policy even though the preferred provider list said she did. I told her I was happy she was taking the lower cost policy now. Well she abruptly stopped went to check with her receptionist. She then tells me I have the wrong insurance policy and she will not treat me. I was shocked!! I had asked her receptionist several times while I was making my appointment if the office accepts my insurance and she assured me they did. I was in so much pain and I have been dealing with this far to long. I begged her to help me in anyway she could. She said I needed to go back to the dentist that did my root canal and crown. I tried to explain again why this wasn’t possible and she tells me in a rather loud tone that my teeth were crooked and she couldn’t help me. As I was leaving she announced loudly how I needed to return to the dentist that had treated me because she couldn’t work on my teeth due to my crooked teeth. So now I’m back where I started in a lot of pain, unable to eat, hardly drink and trying very hard not to talk to my self or husband. I can’t have X-rays done at a different office because they won’t be covered by my insurance for another year. I feel embarrassed and humiliated to ask her office for them. I don’t know what to do at this point. I know not eating is causing other problems as well. Someone please help me!!!

Can you get to a hospital that has a teaching dental department? Or, if you are in the UK, an NHS practice?

I’ve had such a bad experience with Dentist now, I have no idea what to do. My regular Dr will just give me another prescription and if I read the the information leaflet I will never want to take it. I don’t care for the steroid he gave me last month, or the herpes meds that were not helpful. I am rinsing with warm salt, baking soda, and peroxide as often as I can. The peroxide really burns!!! I have had a couple days with no pain in the last six, seven months where I could eat anything I want (potato chips), but I can count them on one hand, I know if I can figure out what’s causing it then maybe I can find away to avoid it!

I’d definitely try to get to a dental hospital.
