Resisting temptation

Today 5th December- gosh that yummy cake. Tempting. But actually I snubbed it. My bowl of fruit by my desk is nearly empty. Temptation at work daily, a lot of Clients bring in chocolates, cakes and biscuits but today the cakes which I snubbed were marking the day a member of staff leaving us all for a job closer to home. I have accepted that I am Miss delicate, there are so many food stuff triggering wheezing, asthma symptoms and intrisic sugar is really bad for that. But why do I feel the need to eat rubbish at work, when eating cakes and biscuits never occurs to me once at home? Stress? Tiredness? Is using my brain at work making me crave sugars? Well I am baffled. I looked everywhere for information about the effect of sugar on the body and the brain: feel good chemical. So now my bowl of fruit is beside my desk and i make the coffee in the office. The step counter working overtime. I have had my first treat after clocking in a nice 108km walking in November: a foot massage.I want to see how many km I will do in December. No way the springs of the scales will go screaming " hoy one gram at a time would you!". My goal setting has not yet cristalised firmly in my head. I was a size 8 when I started in that office in 2013 I am now size 14- I think my asthma will ease once I have shedded to pounds. Well that one of my theory.

Offices are awful for it!

I've been working on allowing myself to have a little bit of what I'm craving, but really paying attention to it while I'm eating. I had some sweets I had been craving for ages and realised that the real life version of them, did not live up to the version I was salivating over in my head. Now I've made that link, it's so much easier to turn down stuff.

I know what bits I will eat if they appear in the office (e.g. skittles), but I'm not sad that I'm not eating the Krispy Cremes :)

Hi yoga-goof sometimes I think its easier to join in and conform rather than say no thanks.

I think that you walking 108Km in November is excellent so this is what I would focus on and it's your perception of sugary treats that needs to change as they're empty calories that will make you unhappy...So buy a bag of grapes and keep your fruit bowl full at work and you can achieve your goals.

Hi yoga-goof

I think a lot of it is down to 'seeing' food around, and clearly your office environment is one where there are lots of chocolates, cakes and biscuits available - fantastic that you've done all those Kms in November, and treated yourself to a lovely foot massage - I bet that was relaxing. :-)

I would like to wish you the best with all your goals for December, and I'm cheering you on!

Zest :-)

Hi yoga-goof our office is the same and I used to struggle not only with the temptation but also being hungry and tired with no time for lunch break so I would just graze all day on the junk rather than having proper meals. Being diagnosed pre diabetic focussed me on my heath and it was surprisingly easy to just stop eating all that stuff, much easier than constantly arguing with myself should I , shouldn’t I have it. I still don’t often get a proper break but I make sure I eat a healthy lunch even if it’s at my computer or in my car. You have done really well with the steps and the fruit. It might help you to focus on the great nutrients you are giving your body and with your health conditions that’s very important. Your not missing out on anything good only stuff that will exacerbate symptoms. Good luck 😀

Well done to you yoga-goof , it's not easy resisting temptation. I used to work in an office and there was always cake, biscuits and chocolate on offer.

I used to be terrible for chocolate and that was until I started making raw fruit bars using cocao powder, shredded coconut, dates and nut butter. The bars are rich in cacao powder and have an intense chocolate taste. I bought a Galaxy Ripple a couple of years ago, started to eat it and didn't enjoy it at all. I'm now a Vegan and eat dark chocolate but only in small amounts.

Stick with your fruit bowl, you're doing well.
