I dont know if anyone uses chewing gum but I was reading a blog post about reducing plastic in our lives and it said that chewing gum contains plastic -apparently the gum base is made of " Polyethylene, one of the most popular components of gum base, belongs to a common group of plastics and is used in products from plastic bags to hula hoops. Polyvinyl acetate is a sticky polymer found in white glue. "
yikes -no wonder I was told not to swallow it as a kid! Fortunately Im not a fan

Hey alchemilla12 here's a link to a recent article saying how most people didn't realise this. Polyethylene is made from fermented grain stock but some permitted plastics are petroleum distillates...What will they think if next to make things taste better...🤔
Its the cost of cleaning it off the streets that puts me off. Plus they now have to put a warning on chewing gum and mints have a laxative effect caused by the sorbitol in them.
And yet I always used to carry a packet of mints when I travelled to settle as I thought they would settle my tummy if I felt a bit travel sick or anxious. chewing gum used to take my mind of things. there must be some brands that are ok and some to avoid.
apparently there is a plastic free brand of chewing gum sold by Iceland called Simply Gum but dont know what the sweetener is. yes it costs councils a fortune to clean it up and of course it doesnt break down. Why are people so ignorant to spit it out in the first place!?
