I’m 50 and I just realised I eat for 2 ...

I have no notion of what a normal portion is?

I try to understand when they say

Protein =deck of cards

Carbs = only few

Fat= thumb size

Vegetables= loads of it

My brain only process this:

Full plate= happy tummy

And God forbid if you’re planning to go keto .... more confusing

Can not think what’s going to happen to me when I get the menopause

Please Help

Hi Majo1469 , I think the most important thing is you've realised that you potentially have a problem, here's a link about portion sizes and what's even more important is what you put on your plate in the first instance as well as portion size:

NHS Eatwell Guide:

nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/t...

WEBMD serving sizes:

webmd.com/diet/ss/slideshow...

So good luck and I'd try and change your diet gradually so it works for you. 😊

Hi Majo1469

I'm a bit sleep deprived today, but I wanted to welcome you to the forum. I hope you'll find those links helpful that Hidden gave. I saw that you mentioned the menopause - I am 53 years old, and I am getting peri-menopausal, so I've borrowed a book from the library about the Menopause that was recommended to me by a friend over in Tortoise & Hare Running Club (which is the NHS weight loss forum), and it's a really helpful book - but I suspect any book on the subject might help.

Anyway, I hope you have a great day, and that the information on portion sizes is helpful.

Hope to see you round and about in the forums.

Zest :-)

Hi Majo

This site has some ideas.

healthline.com/nutrition/8-...

I find the NHS plate has far too many carbs for me to keep my weight under control.

Don’t go too low fat, just stick to the good ones, like olive oil and butter.

Make sure you avoid food with added sugars, like most breakfast cereals. We often have something like a filled omelette for breakfast.

Putting on weight at the menopause doesn’t have to happen, but you may need to change what you eat.

Have a look at the Portion Plate mentioned a few days ago. Looks like it could be helpful.
