What would be good to eat before going to bed if you are hungry?

Hi whatgoingon

I'm going to think about this, and will look forward to responding later. I do have snacks in the evening sometimes, and I'll hope to respond when I think of something that I think really satisfies - as I see you're asking about when someone is feeling hungry.

Hope you're having a lovely weekend. I am very busy doing stuff today - so hoping to relax later. But I'm going to think about what you asked here, as it's a great question.

Hi again Judy,

Apologies if I've already sent you this link, as I know you had a previous post about 'Meal Planning' - but there are some things about snacks in this article, and you might get some ideas from it that are helpful:

I tend to enjoy something like yoghurt, with nuts, and fruit in the evening, or sometimes cheese, nuts and fruit. Another snack I find very filling is some plain peanuts and I sprinkle a little salt on them - I can get a large bag of plain peanuts for £1.49 - and there are 300g in the bag - I usually measure out about 20 to 30g per portion, depending on how I feel - and find that really satiating!

Hi Hidden

I bought them at the Cooperative supermarket - I am going by memory on the price, but I think it's really good. I've just looked at the packet, and it is from the 'Natural Selection' and is 'Jumbo Blanched Peanuts' 300g, and I think it was £1.49... I just add a little salt, and enjoy them. :-)

Hi judyagasco,

I've started making 3 ingredient oat muffins with oats blitzed into flour (I'm sure rolled oats would work, too) over-ripe bananas and either an egg or a tablespoon of peanut butter, occasionally with a 4th addition (sunflower seeds, chopped walnuts, raisins etc). You can bake them in greased muffin tins (or mini muffin tins) and they're pretty filling without being too heavy. These have been my go-to for 'emergency' snacking, and have saved me going for something less healthy.

I read recently that 'no carbs at night / before bed' is a bit over-simplistic. Sometimes, if I've been a bit more active than usual one day, or if my dinner has happened to be quite low on carbs, I've been really hungry by about 9pm. I know that, without a little something, I'd struggle to sleep and definitely wake up feeling really lethargic still. These can go in the freezer and you can take out one or two in the morning, for when they urge strikes over the subsequent few days. I keep them in the fridge in this warm weather.

There are loads of recipes online, but roughly a ratio of 1 banana to 1 egg/1tbsp PB and 1/2 cup of oats does it (you could double/triple the recipe, of course). Bake at 180oC for about 20 minutes.
