I was recommend to drink half of my body weight in ounces of water each day. So, for example, I weigh 140 pounds, so I drink 70 ounces of water, which is just over a half gallon.

There is no absolute guide as to how much water you should drink (other than your own thirst!) it will vary depending on your weight, level of exercise, food eaten, alcohol drunk etc. USE your thirst as a ' first guide' if you are thirsty drink more, if not dont ( be aware that a LOT of people who advocate drinking more come from water companies with a vested interest in it ) and you CAN drink too much and it can be dangerous ( look up 'hypernatremia' ) Look at your pee.... if its pale straw colour, you are doing well...darker yellow .. you need to drink more...colourless you need to drink less...

Hope this helps..ps drinking water is NOT a 'slimming aid' and should not be used as such...

you are usually dehydrated already by the time you feel thirsty. HYPERnatremia is usually due to decreased intake of water or excessive losses.HYPO natremia is excessive retention of water

misprint sorry... thanks for correcting ... I could argue a LOT about the ' dehydrated' by the time you feel thirst thing... I've read the original research here , its often quoted... but when you look at the original research , the ' measurement' of thirst was very dodgy ( in the extreme) self reported then a ' graph ' drawn .. even with this crude measure people were , if memory serves only about 0.5 % to 1% dehydrated when thirst kicked in... so as I say thirst is a good first approximation as to when to drink..

yes I agree with you in principle but I do think the thirst gauge is less reliable as one ages and oftimes elderly people may not feel thirsty when they are actually dehydrated ( especially a problem if they are on diuretics as even if they do feel thirsty they dont want to keep going to the lav anymore than they do already !)

Everyone is different. If you're more active, you'll need more, if you're less active you'll need less.

I aim for at least 1.5L a day, but usually come in around 2L.

As much as I can. It’s good for you. Dehydration is not.

The recommended amount is 3 litres per day...

But considering that there is a heatwave here at the moment..I think that is going to go out of the window!! xx

Drink when thirsty. No need to count. Follow the link below for an interesting read on the subject:

If you are on a whole food plant based diet then you are taking on water naturally. So excluding exercise & heat you may not need much water.

ERM that’s a good question you know I really don’t drink a lot and I could go practically all day without a drink 😟 sometimes I often think when I’ve thought I’m hungry and ate that I should have really had a glass of water
