Hi Sesi711

I'm just about to go to sleep, but noticed your query - and here is a link to information about Osteoarthritis from the NHS Choices website - so maybe that will be helpful as a starting point:

nhs.uk/search?collection=nh...

There might also be a forum in Health unlocked too, but I'm not sure - maybe have a look. Here are some communities about Osteoarthritis:

Welcome to the Healthy eating forum, and hope you have a good weekend.

Zest :-)

Please follow the link below for information on diets for arthritis.

It is also recommended to lose weight, if overweight.

yes, loads of info below, I think lots of greens and an olive oil based dressing is best - plus you can take calcium citrate with vit K and it goes straight to your bones. However make sure all your bloods are right, eg. thyroid wrong will deplete your bones.

Given that osto is more of a bone issue then dietary approaches alone are, imo, insufficient: there has to be an exercise regime. That might start small but it needs to become a daily habit. It needs to build. It needs to be done safely. It cannot be skipped.

My exercise of choice is Bikram yoga, which is static, so there is no moving of joints. This makes it an excellent choice for anyone with arthritis, including osteo. I have been doing bikram yoga for almost three years around 4-5 times a week. So far I have done around 500 classes coming to around 700 hours of yoga. This morning I was at a class in Warwick.

For the first four months I used a chair and was manhandled to get to the floor (and back up!) for the floor poses. I have fought hard to rebuild my body and achieved a state of no medication, despite bone-on-bone, entire lack of cartilage in one knee and one elbow.

Now I can balance tolerably well and make a good attempt at many poses, even though many have modifications / adaptations suited for my body. Whatever it is my body and I am fighting for its health.

Now I can walk at pace with load. I cannot run, to do so would probably be foolhardy. But I can dig in my allotment etc etc. I'll take that as my version of a normal life. Much better than the housebound/wheelchair past that was supposed to be my destiny.

But. But. But. I could never have got to my first Bikram class 18th October 2016, if it wasn't for my dietary choices. I follow the Paddison program which starts with an elimination and gut healing process. For me that process largely took six months from Easter 2016. By January 2017 I was reducing my medication. July 1st 2017 was my last methotrexate tablet after steady month by month reduction, monitoring blood tests as I went.

Since then, immensely supported by my hot yoga classes my body has got stronger and healthier each and every day.

Whatever your health issues, you deserve a healthier body tomorrow. It is achievable. It's your journey, your choice.

My mum, and I hear many others, find osteoarthritis is greatly helped by cutting out gluten. It's certainly not the case for everyone, but enough people find benefit to make it worth trying. You don't have much to lose by trying!

I suggest cutting it out (and preferably also dairy, soya and sugar) for around 30 days, to see if it helps you at all.
