Why’s it so deadly?

And how’s the best way to cope with it?

I wish I could answer this one. In time, I guess, I can. Give me 12 weeks.

In the mean time. Can you help me please?

Hi Splat

Different cancer treatments can have different effects. It has to be deadly to kill cancerous cells and this will affect all your body.

Macmillan Cancer support website may be helpful.

My husband had cancer treatment a few years ago. It was a tough 12 weeks but it was successful. Good luck with your treatment.

Thank you for the link. I will look into it. And thank you for your kind words of encouragement. It has been great to know how supportive most ppl can be at times like this. And I’m very happy to hear your husband’s doing well ( :

I was diagnosed with stage 4 T2 cancer of the larynx in late February.

Once I was finally able to digest the lessons and options my surgeons prescribed, I decided to take the most evasive action against it and a date was then set for April the 26th at the Mass Eye and Ear medical facility in Boston, where I received a prrfectly executed procedure to have my entire larinx, my right thyroid and supporting structures plus 47 lymph nodes removed

The real fun will begin at a Dana Farber branch just a couple of miles from my home on the 4th if June

That will entail seven weeks of radio therapy with a dose of chemo every other monday

My goal is to add at least 10 more pounds till then.

I had realized something was wrong when I started developing issues swalloing which ked to me going from 160 pounds, to 142 in a matter of a few weeks

I’m well schooled on nutrition and ways to gain weight and energy plus toughen up my skin tissue by increasing my collagen intake, plus building a supportive white blood count through a daily regiment of exersise

What I am hoping is how to do this in a manner where the destructive side effects of chemo will not reap havoc to my alteady sensitive neck tissue

Any and all comments will be greatly appreciated

Thank you all in advance, Jack

Hey there! For the sake of understanding, many therapies used for cancer are cytotoxic, meaning they are aimed are stopping our cells from replicating. The problem is that the medication/radiation can’t doesn’t differentiate between healthy/unhealthy ones. The idea is, since there are more healthy cells, that at the end of the process enough of the cancer will be done away with to leave you standing. As far as things that help with the side effects, not every person deals with it in the same way. Many need help with feeing nauseous and having a lack of appetite (due to the effect that chemo have in the digestive tract). But it’s often addressed with other meds like zofran. Again, it varies between patients, but I’m sure that the team helping you through this will likely be able to help in the matter. Keeping by good spirits through the process also does a ton for you. My grandmother and father have each dealt with different varieties of cancer and have made it! I hope things go well and that my two cents helps!

Agreed. Thanks for commenting.

Cancer in larynx could/might be associated with cancer-causing HPV viruses. Are a smoker? If it is squamous cell carcinoma in larynx and osophagus. I know someone, who had advanced thyroid cancer, he survived. One, who had the late stage colon cancer also survived. Both kept asking doctors, saying, there's something wrong for quite a long time, without getting anywhere on the NHS. Both had a series of very invasive multiple ops, which nearly killed them.
