Hi there
I need some ideas on nutrition as I have been diagnosed with early signs of heart disease and high cholesterol.
I have already stopped eating red meat
And less white meat. But need ideas and tips.
Many thanks
Sarah

Hi sassybon
Welcome to the Healthy Eating forum. I am just about to go out, so I haven't had chance to think much about your post, but I did see a website from 'Heart UK: The Cholesterol Charity' which has many recipes, and so you could have a look:
heartuk.org.uk/tasty-recipe...
I will also give you a link to the NHS 'Eat Well' pages - which are quite extensive:
I would suggest discussing your treatment with your GP or medical health provider, to make sure you are following their recommendations.
I hope these are helpful - and I'm sure you'll get other replies too.
Hope you'll enjoy participating in the Healthy eating forum - we have lots of Pinned posts and Topics too - so have a look around.

Hi
Cutting out the highly processed foods, like sugary breakfast cereals, biscuits and white sliced bread can help to improve your cardio vascular health and cholesterol levels.
Make sure you eat a wide variety of colourful vegetables and fruit. It’s not usually a good idea to eat ‘low fat’ foods, as they tend to be full of sugar. Whatever you eat, aim for good quality.
Regular exercise is also important, you could start with walking if you haven’t exercised before.
Only, and I mean only, a whole food plant based diet has been shown to reverse heart disease. Put it this way, if we all adopted a WFPB lifestyle there would be no heart disease.
So any recipe that is has no meat products in it should be a good move. However when recovering from any chronic illness then going for the healthy end of veganism, ie a WFPB is critical.
My favourite winter meal is based in lentils, with onions, garlic, herbs/spices lots of chopped root and cruciferous vegetables. This is nutritionally complete, cheap and easy to prepare. It can be adapted to what you have in the cupboard/fridge. I strongly recommend you do not use oils and as such the whole meal is incredibly slimming, no matter how much you eat. Add a bowl of rice to help the dish go further. Add a salad of dark leafy greens for a great supply of anti-oxidants.
Never under-eat always eat until full & satiated. You will then feel less and less need to snack.
If you eat this kind of meal daily you will find your immune system improving and generally feel happier over time.
