You're right that foods can help. In fact they can help a lot. In my body I am fighting 40 or more years of osteoarthritis rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis. Not a joint in my body has escaped. Including almost no cartilage in my right knee and right elbow.

Now, despite having been in a wheelchair two years ago yesterday I walked up the 370ish steps of the famous tower in Bruges with ease. No pain. No medication. Just a whole food plant based diet focused on nutrition in every bite. Physical recovery supported by hot bikram yoga daily. The process I went through was the paddisson program which deals with the medication, working what foods should be avoided and which to concentrate on. It is not an easy path, no walk in the park. But recovery is possible, even aged 65 like me.

The core is healthy eating, and for my body to function at all that means ultimate healthy eating. Anything less will take me down.

HI , at 66 , arthritic and nearly 16 stone, I would appreciate your views on healthy eating that has obviously worked for you. I need to lose 2 stone so I am open to any ideas.

The closer you get to a whole food plant based diet the easier your weight will come off, even without exercise, almost even if you stuff your face at every meal. It is easy and cheap to claim that and there are things that can stop the weight loss but for most people it works.

Do not expect miracles overnight. This is the start of a long slow process where every day things get slightly better. The ONLY person who can drive that is you. I cannot feel your pain, neither can your doctor, nor rheumy, family or friends. This is your world. It is very private.

However people going through similar pain and suffering, and indeed healing process are best by far to offer timely advice and support. And you will need that help.

There will be naysayers aplenty, lots of conflicting advice and lots of potential dead ends.

As I say I followed the paddisson program. Google that. A good starting point is the Tedx talk by Clint paddisson. If you want to email me andyswarbs at gmail.com or post questions/thoughts on here.
