As World Vegan Month is coming to an end has it influenced you. πŸ’š

Hi everyone,

As the interest in all thing plant based has mushroomed coupled with the link to global warming which's also pertinent as it's in the news.

The interest in a vegan diet is most popular in Australia and this was after public outrage last year when 2400 sheep died being shipped to the Middle East on a container ship that transports over 80,000 sheep in hot 96C and cramped conditions.

theguardian.com/world/2018/...

There is also a poll running as it's World vegan month and there's a massive interest in all things vegan/plant based.

Superdrug have launched their own brand 'Cruelty free' and there are now so many options in restaurants/cafe's/shops now.

Any poll ideas as always very welcome.

So now you can have your say as its not for everyone it's interesting/amusing that some see a vegan vegetarian diet as less manly...

Hi Hidden

Firstly I am admiring your lovely spread of vegetables and potatoes in your casserole dish - it looks delicious! Regarding World Vegan Month - and the posts that you and others have shared during that month, and the Polls also - I have popped into the forum called 'Vegan Foods for Life' and admired the range of delicious meals that people are enjoying there - and some of the recipes look amazing. I am intending to make a 'Sweet potato soup' today which is partly influenced by having subscribed to a Vegetarian website, and being sent some recipe ideas. So yes, I would say I have been influenced by World Vegan Month.

I am keen for meat and fish to be produced in a sustainable way and that it is cruelty free. I am shocked to hear about the sheep dying in the Middle East on the container ship. I will look at the Guardian article you posted later - I've not looked at it yet.

I am glad there are more options in Restaurants and Cafe's and shops for people who would like to eat Vegetarian and Vegan foods - I think that's a positive thing.

I'd like to wish you a good weekend, and I'll have a look at the new Poll later.

Zest :-)

Thank you Zest, this is a very positive response and I think that many of us feel the same and want to see changes for the better for everyones sake and the planet.

So to me it's win win by raising awareness of why people are becoming vegan at such a startling rate.

I hope that you have a great weekend too and your sweet potato soup sounds delish and I look forward to seeing it. 😊

Have to confess, I forgot it was world vegan month! I saw the original posts, but it just went out of my head! It'll catch more people in Veganuary/January, I'm sure.

I certainly don't intend to go vegan, because it's not cruelty-free and it's not environmentally sound. On the other hand, the continued mistreatment of livestock (as in the example you mentioned) is disgusting. There's no need for this sort of thing. None. You leave your dog in a hot car and you're likely to be prosecuted. Do the same thing to 80,000 sheep and ... meh, it's just sheep.

It's not good enough.

On the weight loss forum, we have a challenge linked to the British Gut Project britishgut.org/

Preliminary findings from the project are that people who eat 30 different plants in a month have the healthiest guts, as in greater microbial diversity, which appears to have all sorts of health benefits, including aiding weight loss. When I heard Prof Spector speak about it, he said vegan and vegetarian participants were no more likely than omnivores to reach the target. It's worth having a go to see if you reach that figure - or beyond

Hi BridgeGirl, this is really interesting and 30 different plants in a month sounds like an exciting challenge, so thanks for posting this and the link.

We've had other challenges linked to it like trying a new veg (or one you rarely use) every week; finding three different ways of using a veg etc. I'll relaunch it shortly with a winter/Christmas theme.

I think we need to keep the interest and the variety going. When losing weight, people focus a lot on what they're reducing or cutting out from their diet when we could be looking at the positives, the new things to try :)

This sounds like a great idea and I look forward to seeing it.

I think that we all are prone to eating a variation on a theme when its great to try different things. I've been thinking a lot about eating 30 different plants in a month as it sounds easy but is it...😊
