I need a diet

Hi I’m Starrlight! So, vI never used to touch processed sugar. I was at my ideal weight not too long ago. Well I got into a habit of having ice cream, peanut butter, sometimes chocolate. I’ve gained 15 pounds even though I exercise 40 minutes a day. Now I will be taking cinnamon each day to help with the cravings. I feel so uncomfortable. I really am feeling those extra pounds. Ugh. I need to be motivated. Any tips are welcome!!! Thanks!

Building a habit is tough but some people suggest that if you stick to a plan at least for more than 21 days, it will stick.

When I started exercising I first started the habit of waking up early like 6 or 7 am. Just waking up in the morning every day after a week I wanted to add an extra activity (walking).

I started walking for half an hour each day. After that, I started running.

So to keep it short now I'm running 4 km or 2.4 miles 3 times per week (before I use to run more frequently but I'm recovering from a vasectomy).

You need habit building. Start small and scale whenever you feel like doing a bit more.

Don't force it but be CONSISTENT.

Of course, stop eating junk food and sweets, sugary drinks etc. You know what I mean. ;)

To your health,

P.S: Hope it helps.

Hi and welcome to the group, Starrlight .

Have you talked with your doctor about changing your diet/exercise routine? Have you been told to count carbs for each meal and/or snack?

No I don’t want to talk to my doctor. I don’t want to count carbs hahaha!!! Not that it wouldn’t be a good idea. I am already on a gluten free and meat free diet. I just need to kick the sweets.

I'm on a gluten free and low carb high protein diet. They both have helped me with the weight and the blood sugar control (I'm a type 1 diabetic).

Oh that’s awesome that it has helped you!

It works, but sometimes, if I'm not well (sick with a cold), then the numbers go out of wack and I have to be extra careful with the carbs and what my meals/snacks have to be during my day/evening/night.

I put loads of weight on couple years ago, felt really sluggish, I follow slimming world and have the app, it’s about counting syns, e.g. some chocolate bars are 9 syns, but you build them in and have between 5-15 syns a day, there’s loads free food, veg, salad, protein, etc , I am now down to within my target weight, I don’t exercise but I love walking, so trying to build that in 3 times a week, good luck, I am gluten free too, sister, xxxx

From habits to rabbits - food I mean lol!!! First of all, I would check with a doctor before starting on a change in foods or exercise or adding vitamins, etc.

Having said that, eating lots of fruits and veggies, and lots of leafy veggies will pay huge dividends healthwise. Add the fruits and veggies so that they crowd out the other foods you gained weight on. Then, you can treat yourself from time to time. Which is exactly what ice cream, etc. are. They're treats.

Now, you can add some raw cacao powder to fruit smoothies you make at home, for instance which will be delicious.

Don't forget to eat oatmeal in the morning - it's great for good health and really fills you up. Add flax seeds and fruit, as well as cinnamon for taste.

I love Indian vegetable dishes because they are so flavorful.

Plan to change your lifestyle for a year with at least 45 minutes of walking per day and I guarantee you those unwanted 15 pounds are already gone!

I lost 3.5st following Slimping World. Have been at target for 15 months. I rarely eat bread as once I start I go on overload and eat a loaf. I resist sugars and limit fats, cooking using fry light and cut all visible fat from meat. I eat breakfast, lunch & dinner sticking to protein & vegetables in the main. I eat fruit (careful to chose speed options) between and have the occasional treat too. Exercise is great but won't undo the gains of eating too much sugar & fat. Good luck !!!

There is more to putting on weight than processed sugar. Exercise, age and the rest of the food in your kitchen and favourite restaurants that can put on the pounds.

Since you're an ice cream lover I assume you know about frozen bananas. I finally did this today and it was absolutely a milkshake- I really would not have known if I had not made it myself: put two very very ripe bananas in the freezer ( I did it overnight). Fill any blender with 2 cups light vanilla organic soymilk, add about 6 average fresh strawberries, add the two frozen bananas. Get the blender to crush the bananas like ice then blend until totally smoothe - it comes out just like a milkshake and I have a cheap old blender.
