Weight Loss Journey

Hello again folks, I have now been attending Slimming World for six weeks and I have dropped steadily from 15st to 13st 13lbs at todays weigh in and I am absolutely delighted, I would really like to get to 13st before the end of October and 12st before the end of November, I am 50 years of age with a birthday to come in October, I am male 5'10" and of reasonably good health, are my targets feasible or fanciful?

If you think my goals are unrealistic, can you suggest an alternative?

Hi Roadhog, and congratulations on your weight loss I would carry on as you are so your weight loss remains achievable. Hopefully your self esteem has increased as your weight has dropped. So I'd keep that as the driving force, without feeling you have to lose more weight faster.

As one who has done slimming world and other regimes I remember asking myself, did I still want to be doing slimming world when I was 80 or more?

It is brilliant you have lost weight, but what will your diet look like after slimming world?

There are two opposing strands to permanent weight loss on this forum. Whole food plant based vs low carb. Both will generate weight loss, and in the long term. And since being overweight is linked to most chronic illnesses that's a great bonus. People who lose out tend to be those caught in the middle, perhaps following a "moderation" lifestyle.

I favour the whole food plant based approach in part because your chances of having a heart attack become more and more negligible as the years roll by when following it. And since heart disease is modern societies no1 killer, that is not a trivial matter.

If you want to learn more about heart disease from a world authority then watch Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn at youtube.com/watch?v=LXre416... where you can learn how a heart attack takes place, and how the body protects you from one.

Congrats. Keep at it. It’s a fantastic weight loss program & 2lb a week is what is normal. I have just begun a week & a half ago & have lost 5lb. The diet this time is different. 6 years ago I lost 3 & a half stone in 5 months. It is faster for men to lose weight. So hang in there.

Well done Roadhog ! I'd stick with what you are doing and keep learning about the foods you are eating and what works for you, as it'll stand you in good stead once you reach the weight you feel best at. I followed Weightwatchers last year and achieve 43 lb loss in 22 weeks. Now maintaining- using everything - the resources to hand (ie WW app etc) and what I've Iearned about food and my relationship with it. Don't try to lose too fast - 1 - 2 lbs a week is good - if you lose too quickly it's harder to maintain apparently. Good luck and best wishes with your journey and keep saying "I will" not " I might"!

Not what you're looking for?
