Diet confusion.

Yay! So, just been diagnosed with crohns disease (been free from symptom for 30 years), until the steroids kick in, I'm finding that low fibre means I have less gut pain. Problem is, I was also diagnosed with diabetes a few months ago, and high fibre diet recommended. I do not need to lose weight as it has already drastically dropped. What do I eat until I see the diabetic doctor. I hated the nurse as she did not appear to listen to my other medical issues, and I feel the treatment she prescribed triggered the crohns off. No proof though just my intuition. I stopped as it was making me feel ill. Need to start afresh.

Hey poor you Sadmia, here's a link they may help:

livestrong.com/article/3640...

And here's an extract:

If you suffer from diabetes and Crohn's, start with a healthy diet that's high in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, nuts, legumes and low-fat dairy to stabilize your blood sugar.

Good luck and I wish you well,

Jerry 😊

Until the steroids take effect I'm reluctant to eat high fibre and nuts, as there is a constriction in the bowel, and larger bits of foods eg corn, peel, skin etc , get caught up, causing awful pains for several hours, it's exhausting. Of course my diet will improve once the worst is treated. Can't wait, as I miss a lot of those things. Thankyou for your reply though.

I'd be taking a look at fodmap diet to help diagnose. Also check out gojiman on youtube. He has a range of extremely informative videos that should help you.

Hi Sadmia

I haven't got anything helpful to add to what has already been suggested, but I did want to wish you well with your diagnosis, and hope that you get lots of support and that you are comfortable as possible.

I hope you get to see your Diabetic doctor soon, as I know you are awaiting that appointment.

Zest :-)

Hi Sadmia

Good luck with sorting this out. I would second andyswarbs suggestion to have look at a Low Fodmaps diet. It was developed by the Monash University in Australia.
