Hi APie14 ,

Welcome to the Healthy Eating forum. I'm wondering if you've considered adding lentils to your soups, or perhaps some beans, as then they will be more filling - and whenever I have some soup, I usually accompany it with some wholemeal bread.

We have lots of meal ideas and healthy recipes in the Topics section - have a look at the right-hand-side of the page where it says 'Topics'. Lots of ideas there.

Great that you enjoy cooking, and I hope you'll share some of your meal ideas and recipes - if you want to.

Zest :-)

Are you eating lots of protein at each meal?

No I’d say not, I used to eat lots and lots of bread and pasta; starchy, glutinous foods. Now I’m going for lots of veg and minimal meat so lacking in protein.

Try to add more foods with protein in them at each meal and snack during the day. I have been eating more protein for my meals and low carbs. Please discuss this with your doctor before you start changing your diet. If you’re told that you can do it, go for it!

I feel hungry & in need of starchy foods if my protein intake is too low. I aim for 40g a day, as over 50g gets just converted to fat rather than energy. About a third of my intake is from dairy kefir & the rest from lentils, beans, nuts & seeds, & occasionally a sprinkle of cheese.

It's normal for me to be hungrier in the winter, so I fill up with vegetable &/or lentil soups.

Try adding resistant starch foods to your meals. It's filling, &

acts as a prebiotic which feeds our healthy gut bacteria rather than being converted to calories.
