This is the picture of the bee I drew for company Abel & Cole I got a free pack of wild flowers in return.
Took me a while to draw it but I think it was worth it.
See, when I was little I didn't really care about bees... Actually I didn't really care about any insects.
But those were the days when I was very naive as well. Now is different. I appreciate insects a lot more now, every insect plays a big role in life so don't go killing them for no reason.
You don't kill human beings for no reason.... Well, the ones with brains don't go killing for no reason :).

This is a truly fantastic drawing Matt, it's so delicate with incredible attention to detail, you're a star that's for sure, so thanks for sharing this with us. 😊
I enjoyed getting a free pack of wildflowers alright but once I have sown them and grow well and feed the bees then I shall enjoy them even more :).
A single bee has to collect pollen from thousands of flowers just to make one teaspoon of honey, apparently.
What a beautiful picture. How about doing one for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust of a bumblebee? If you like bees look them up. They are fantastic. And solitary bees - love them! They work so hard and pollinate way more than our honey bees (who I love too!) and are so varied - and - bonus - don't sting! I shall follow you now Matt to see what else you produce
And doing a drawing for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. I haven’t heard of them before. Is that a group on HU or is this a seperate organisation or something?
Sounds like a good idea though and gives me another bit of reference to for a drawing :). Thank you.
I do have an online portfolio with a lot more of my pictures if you would like to see.
Or, if you use facebook you can view some of my work from my profile :).
My niece and myself are mad about bees. She is in a competition at school talking about any subject they want in front of ever growing audience and she has chosen bees and is now in the final of the competition 😃
From what I gather we would only be able to eat things made from wheat if there were no bees. People really need to learn about bees 🐝
Thank you very much Seedhead but that is no painting :). I do not use paints. I can’t get to grips with them whether it be water or actyllic or oils...
Plus they can be messy.
I prefer to use pencils. This here was drawn using colour pencils :).
Actually, now you have mentioned the wings. I quite like them to.
How did I do that? Haha :).
I think I used graphite pencil over the top of the colour.
I was tutored on my art quite a few years ago now and I learnt of an artist, can’t remember her name now but I know it was a female. She drew botanical drawings using colour pencil and her work looked like oil paintings. Brilliant work.
I was using prismacolor pencils at first and they are good quality, they are soft but oily but the only problem is that they break easily.
I found that I would sharpen them and they would immediately snap.
I like to use faber castell colour pencils more now cos the colour lead is stronger. Quality might not be as good as the prismacolors but good enough :).
