Dieting and getting fitter and healthier is top of the list for lifestyle change this time of year. So what we have to do is make a conscious effort to break old habits and here are a couple of links that hopefully will help those who want a change of lifestyle.
Remember just saying I want to be slimmer and eat better then eating habitually will make us even unhappier because it creates negative emotions so these links show how to change our relationship with food.
It could also be worthwhile to remind ourselves that...Health is Wealth...this will help to challenge bad eating habits and suddenly that packet of sweet biscuits will seem like empty calories that are going to make us unhappy...if you feel that you have to snack then buy a bag of grapes π
And remember it takes time and it is probably better to aim at losing up to 2Kg a month and then if you lose more what a bonus and see it as a lifestyle change that will help you achieve your goal. And don't beat yourself up over past mistakes as the past is the past. Feel good that you are doing something now.
I've been mindfull of what I eat & the human & environmental consequences, for many years. Also the impact of cheap shopping, in general, on other people's lives. I try hard to avoid buying things that might be produced in poor human conditions, where people producing & supplying our food might suffer, or buying things from companies known to use sweatshop labour. Within my personal boundaries, I like think where my food comes from is as ethical with regard to organic, agrichemical free, & FairTrade as I can find & afford.
I've posted these a few times for general reference:
I've printed them off as well - really good! Thank you!
Hi Jerry
A very good post and sensible. I have dieted in the past and do not diet anymore, I just eat as healthily as I can and try to sit down and enjoy every mouthful that I eat and don't rush my food. I have changed my way of eating by not picking at the high fat and sugar foods, I don't like processed foods i.e. packaged vegetarian burgers etc (I make all my own veggie burgers now) and I detest packaged white bread. I also eat very little carbohydrates now as I rarely eat rice/pasta etc but I do still have a sandwich at lunchtime, today it was cream cheese and smoked salmon. I like the 80%/20% rule as I don't think it hurts to have a little of something that you really enjoy even though it's not classed as healthy.
I tend to eat something after my meal in the evening and that normally consists of either grapes or kiwi. I have had a couple of chocolates over Christmas as they were bought for both my hubby and me - I think I've eaten 4 in total.
I used to eat quite a lot of chocolate but now I tend to eat dark chocolate and eat milk chocolate on rare occasions.
Thank you for the post.

Hi Alicia,
I wouldn't worry about eating cream cheese sometimes as its a natural product and its how much and how often. Especially as you're within your recommended BMI.

Hi Jerry
Thank you for your support as always. I love cream cheese and salmon but I do really need to think about what else to eat at a lunch time as unless I make gluten free bread (I am going to make some as I have some gluten free flour), this is for the low FODMAP diet I will be going on under the Dietician. I really need to think about lunches that do not contain bread i.e. I will have a look at making some homemade soups in my slow cooker.

How about cold slices of cooked omelette, I make a quiche with mash potato as a base and that slices well is is great cold and you could make mini ones in ramekin dishes and add diced potato. And you could make your mushroom burger mix and make veggie scotch eggs with that.
And good luck with your FODMAP diet I'll be interested to know how you get on with it.

Thank you Jerry and that's a very good idea. I am mixing up an eggy type mixture tonight for Dinner and will save some of that cold and freeze the rest.
I'll report on the low FODMAP diet on here and how I get on.
This is a great post - and I try to be 'mindful' when I'm eating - and indeed, when I'm doing any activity - it definitely helps to be in the moment and focusing and I really like all the information that has been shared in this thread - many thanks!
Hi Zest and thank you, its must be bewildering that feeling of 'I need to change my ways' and we can help. And you already do this so what a good example for those who want to change.
This is so what I needed to read today, Just last night I ate a tin of tomato soup without thinking, then felt tired and didn't even enjoy it. So will set my mind to a more healthy way of eating. Thanks for posting this.
