Scared to go to doctors?

I'm scared to go to the doctors to get my health checked in case NOTHING shows up. I know this sounds weird and bizarre but i have been struggling with an unknown health condition for years now and i haven't been to the doctor in years. I know somethings wrong with my body and it is causing very low self esteem as it effects how i look. The last time i went to the doctor was years ago when my health was even worse than it is now and they done a full blood test and nothing showed up. That's one of the reasons i haven't went back because i got a full blood test and nothing showed up and that was when i was even worse than i am now so going back will bring up the same results most likely and i'll be depressed because i really want a diagnosis so i can follow the right path to heal myself. I don't know what to do.

Hi healthiskey ,

I just read your post, but I am struggling to know what to say in reply - it sounds like you've got a dilemma there. If you managed to get to see the doctor this time (having not been for many years), maybe you could explain how you feel and what you think, and see what the person says. You could always seek a second opinion, if needed, and maybe they would be able to refer you to someone who could help you?

I hope you are able to decide what to do, and that you can enjoy the weekend.

Take care,

Zest :-)

Hello healthiskey .

I have some inkling of what you mean. I have Rheumatoid arthritis which took six months to diagnose, not half as long as you but I got fobbed off with all sorts of explanations but I knew something was wrong. And then I was diagnosed with an extremely rare lung disease. It is so rare the specialist I saw had only seen three cases in his forty year career. I was just lucky I got to see three very thorough and dedicated pulmonologists. If I was less lucky, I think I may be still searching for answers now.

The thing is no one and I repeat no one knows how you feel except you. If you get results that tell you there is nothing wrong, it could be they aren't looking in the right places. Get a second, third and fourth opinion. Please don't feel bad. You aren't feeling well, and haven't been for some time. It's only natural to want to know what's happening with your body and to get some help.

I am thinking of you and hope you get some answers. And no this is not weird and bizarre.

If you'd like please let us know how it goes.

Gentle hugs.

Modern medical science is good but it's not perfect. There are plenty of tests that aren't as good as they should be , thyroid function for example. Apparently the tests for adrenal problems don't detect anything until the actual system is less than 10% of it's proper capacity.

I hope you find the answers you are looking for :) Good luck!

I feel you need to take control of your situation. You sound anxious and maybe that is what needs addressing. A simple daily gratitude exercise will help with anxiety and is worth doing. Gratitude is there for you to realise that the glass is half full not half empty. Do not dwell on your problems – maybe find something new to do?

I am a great believer in acupuncture (it has worked for me) providing you can find a qualified practitioner. The treatment approach is so different that a good practitioner should identify your problem and treat appropriately. I think it is still worth seeing your GP as any outcome of the tests is always useful information if you ever want to see a complimentary therapist.

Hi there,

Have you had any allergy tests done? because you might be ingesting something that is affecting you, lactose intolerance often causes sinus issues. There's a really simple hydrogen breath test for it.

It could be something simple like magnesium deficiency as that makes us anxious and over half the population are magnesium deficient.

You could also try an elimination diet with the guidance of a nutritionalist, where you go an a really bland simple diet and gradually introduce new foods and keep a food diary. By doing this you are doing something for you so it should help boost your self esteem as you're doing something positive for you...

Now by your own admission you suffer from stress, stress suppresses our immune system and makes us vulnerable to colds and bugs it is bad for us and our self esteem.

I'd start by eating only good quality fresh foods that are packed with nutrition so you're giving yourself a head start and getting a balanced diet then look at your issues like going up a stair case and go one step at a time.

And I wish you well,

Jerry 🌝

Hi there healthiskey

I can understand your dilemma as you know something is wrong but don't know what and you don't want to go as nothing was found last time. I have IBS and there have been times when something else has appeared and you are concerned that it could be something serious. I had another Colonoscopy last year (the first one I had was back in 1996/7) as my symptoms had changed, the test came back clear. This was good in one way but not good in another way as my problem was still there. My doctor is now referring me to a Dietician.

If you are not happy with the doctor you have at the moment have you thought about changing? Also, I think it would be a good idea to go to a doctor as you really do need to put your mind at rest as I can see you are very worried which I fully understand. It would be good to let them know exactly what your symptoms are and what happened a few years ago.

Whatever you decide to do please take care.

Hi healthiskey ,

Would you be willing to go see the doctor if a friend or family member went with you for moral support to get the news either way?

The only way to find out is by blood tests, though doctors don’t always spot screamingly obvious issues such as low nutrient levels, or insufficient cofactors to help them work.

A comprehensive blood test may show up things like PA, anaemia, or other micronutrient deficiencies. I know I feel wretched if my B12, iron, magnesium, & vitamin D levels are low, & that what my GP thinks of as normal range is inadequate for me. I ensure I have a range & sufficiency of micronutrients, that I take carefully so as to have optimal absorption, along with a large quantity of probiotics from kefir to ensure I maintain good gut health so the nutrients I eat are properly absorbed.

If you have an autoimmune issue, another thing GPs fail to spot, it’s important to exclude gluten from your diet, to find out if this is a trigger. However, it takes 3 months to rid the body of the effects. It can also take months to notice any changes that we make with regard to adding things to our diets.

Please check over my previous replies to you in case you’ve missed something I’ve already suggested.

Hi,

I can understand how you feel. I've had various health issues that have never shown up in tests and I've ended up trying to alleviate the issues myself. However, as you have not been for years, it would be worth making an appointment. Even though you said you felt worse then, it doesn't mean that the results will be the same now. If nothing still shows up, at least it will put your mind at rest that it's not something really serious and you can then start looking at other options.

You don't say what the problem is, but it may be something that you can help yourself with through altering your diet, the amount of exercise you do or through looking at your mental health.

Good luck
