Labelling of nutritional contents of pre-packed cakes.

Are supermarkets obliged to display or when requested in the store to provide the nutritional contents of food. I asked my local Morrisons for the above for

Portuguese Custard Tarts ( for my weekend treat ) ?

The answer was "The ingredients were a secret " I do not think they knew what a nutritional value was.

Many Thanks.

Hi unikeyman ,

It's a pity you couldn't get the nutritional information you requested from the supermarket regarding the Portugese Custard Tart. I looked on my Fitbit and it gave a range of 'custard tart' options, including one from Morrisons - but I don't know if it was the Portugese variety (I really love those by the way - I discovered a Portugese bakery in Cardiff when I was there recently, and enjoyed one of those custard tarts on about 3 of the days I was there! Lovely!)

Anyway, the calories ranged from between 230 per serving to 300 - I hope that helps with regard to estimating your intake for the weekend.

Zest :-)

The nutritional content of the food is not a legal requirement on food packaging. Ingredients are a legal requirement and should be listed in ascending order but they do not have to tell you how much of each ingredient is present.
