My number 1 tip - use the power of habit to develop healthy routines and behaviours. It's often amazingly easy to build new a habit through simple repetition.

For example I stopped adding salt when i was cooking, it took about 2 weeks to get used to the taste, and the food did taste bland and boring for a bit, but i stuck with it and now food without salt tastes wonderful, and salty food is just too salty.

Similarly I developed the habit of cooking healthy meals in the evening, and now even if i don't get home till 11:30PM and i'm really tired, I can usually find the time and energy to cook because my whole body is looking forward to getting that lovely healthy food.

Number 2 - do some planning and preparation. sometimes you won't feel like spending a long time cooking so have ingredients like frozen veggies to hand so you can cook something quickly. Also batch cook meals and freeze some for later.

Number 3 - get other people involved. I'm lucky as I work in an office where a lot of people go to the gym and eat healthy, and most of my friends do yoga or pilates, so its easier to do these things yourself when your peer group is supportive and similarly motivated.

and number 4 (maybe this should be number 1!) is go easy on yourself if you do slip-up or do something less healthy, it happens to all of us, just don't beat yourself up about it and go back to healthy when you can.

solid advice. Yes, having a routine is super important, and planning is paramount. Must add these to my outlook. Thank you benwl!

Hi James,

I've been vegetarian for over 30 years. I find a high fat/low starch diet suits me best, as does sticking to restrictive eating times. I eat a lot of dairy kefir for probiotics, protein, B12 & K2. I have a jar of almonds, brazil & walnuts, & a jar of chia & linseeds on my kitchen table. Also fruit & dark chocolate, so it's easy to eat things that are good for me. My rule of thumb is that if I stick to a clean wholefood diet at home, I can be more relaxed about what I eat when I'm out.

True. Less options when you are out, so making the most of having control in your own home is a great method. Thanks for the insight!

No matter how much you know, every man is your superior in some way. Always learning and growing :-)

I was pointing out this isn't a place to sell your blog.

So I think you took that the wrong way. I can see that now because of how I wrote it. If thats how you took it, I apologize. To your comment, I was saying No matter how much people know, every man (person) is superior to us in some way. Meaning it doesn't matter how much you know, someone always can contribute. This was to your - preaching to the choir comment.

If someone wrote "I'm in" it wouldn't automatically link to your website or subscribe them to your email list. Your invitation to do so looks like you're fishing for contacts as an advertising ploy. Apologies if this is not the case.

True, I have been trying raw and it gives tons of energy and great bowel movements to eliminate waste also. I should also probably incorporate a walk on my lunchbreak since its pretty nice year-round in Florida. Thank you for the advice!
