The amount of carbs and/or protein depends on the person. Everyone is different. One amount of carbs/protein may not be right for everybody. Please check with your doctor before you change anything for your diet.
So much depends on who you are, what your history is and what your goals are. Every human being needs sufficient calories to live, add more calories to that and you will put on weight.
The good news is if you get enough calories of healthy food each day then de facto then you will get enough protein for your body. This means you don't have to worry about protein! The word is bandied around in shops as a marketing term to sell products in the shops! I mean, in modern society how often do you actually hear of anyone with a protein deficiency in the news. The answer is never. You will never hear about a protein deficiency because it is near impossible to achieve. The only exception for protein needs is if you want to build more muscle, eg weight lifter, and then a high-protein diet will help in that goal.
Carbs are where you get your energy from to live an active life. However not all carbs are the same. Processed carbs (like white breads) are bad for you and, for instance, are very likely to do things like elevate your glycemic index. What are best are unprocessed carbs, "whole wheat", "whole grain." But be careful of packs sold in supermarkets such as cereals and pasta that describe their contents as whole grain. They may have the whole grain included but in the end they are still processed foods. This is where the term "whole food" comes in, which is a short hand for whole unprocessed (or minimal processed) foods.
I follow a whole food plant based diet which, by its very definition, without having to worry about anything is a fully nutritionally balanced diet that has no excess of anything and never leaves me hungry. It gives me sufficient calories, protein and good carbs for my needs as it can do for anyone who follows it.
Hi I am no GP/nutritionist, but have read about meal portions comprising of your Palms=protein, carbohydrates are your hands cupped and vegetables are your fists. Sugary, fatty junk types of food are your thumbs.
Also about a healthy weight being that, your waist measurement is half that of your height. Of course check with your GP methinks.
