Hi everyone, has anyone tried water keifer? I have made milk keifer but am interested in the water keifer. I was given some grains yesterday and wondered the best type of sugar to use and where to get it from. Any recipes would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

Hi I'm replying to myself as I've Sorted it out. After much research on you tube and everyone saying different things, slight variations of how to do it I've chosen a recipe. It's all done and stored waiting for the fermentation to complete. My next job is to make sauerkraut. It really exciting and rewarding knowing your making things that are good for you and not full of preservatives ect. Enjoy the lovely sunshine everyone.

Best of luck with making the water Kefir. I will be making a culture for the milk kefir (I bought it in my local supermarket to try it first and liked it) and I, like you, am trying to get away from all of the 'rubbish' food.

I have made milk keifer but I'm wary of drinking milk because it's upset my stomach in the past. I use hemp milk, I tried some of that with my keifer grains and it went mad!! It really speeded up the process!!! I'm also going to have a go at making my own nut or hemp milk. If it works out cheaper that will be good plus no additives and all that. It's good to know your trying to cut the rubbish out. It's a bit overwhelming to start with but gets easier as you go along. I've just read the clever guts diet by Dr Michael Mosley. Some good recipes and lots of information about our microbiome and how to have a healthy gut.

Milk hasn't upset my stomach as such but I am pretty sure that dairy contributes to my IBS symptoms so I will be omitting all dairy from my diet which will of course include milk kefer. The almond milk in the shops isn't too bad for price - not sure how much it would cost though to make your own nut oil as nuts are fairly expensive. It's like everything with IBS, nothing is cheap!!

Thanks for the information re the Clever Guts Diet, I will have a look at that one.

Best of luck re making your own hemp or nut milk.
