For people the world over, a bowl of corn flakes is the go-to breakfast of choice.
But for the majority of those who look forward to their morning bowl, it will come as a surprise that they were invented to stop people masturbating.
John Harvey Kellogg, who first created the cereal in the late 19th century, originally intended it to be a ‘healthy, ready-to-eat anti-masturbatory morning meal’, according to Mental Floss.
Mr Kellogg, a physician, was uncomfortable about sex, believing it was unhealthy for the body, mind and soul.
He was celibate, having never consummated his marriage and keeping a separate bedroom from his wife.
Whilst most of what they say about the man is true ( he was also a passionate enema enthusiast) I do not believe there was any direct link between his unorthodox views and the cereals that bear his name.
These Corn Flakes were invented as part of his health regimen to prevent masturbation. His belief was that bland foods, such as these, would decrease or prevent excitement and arousal.[20] Kellogg was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2006.
Very interesting to read, cure ! Thank you for sharing.
Kellog was friends with Jethro Kloss who wrote the back to Eden books and they were both seventh day Adventists born 150 years ago. Jethro Kloss said that in years to come hospitals would be full of people because of their diets and was he right or was he right...
Mind you he also said that baking powder was the work of the devil as it was a laxative so he also had some 'extreme' ideas.
