I bought a baking mix with the BBE January, but when I opened it up to throw it away as I never got around to making it, the sachets inside had February and June in - why does it say this? Is it somethin to do with the material they're packaged in?

Hi, BBE is a guide and products remain usable for a good while after, whereas use by is generally considered an order and used on raw meat etc. :)

Manufacturing date is generally what determines it and there's a standard 2 years. It doesn't mean anything in terms of your health. It is possible that any raising agents wouldn't be as effective.

Best before is exactly what it says, for optimum flavour and quality of ingredients it is best used by that date however it is not harmful to eat after. Use by is an instruction and food could be harmful if consumed after that date. Sell by dates are instructions to the shop and goods should not be sold after that date
