So I have a low blood pressure illness that presents itself as Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome which means I'm susceptible to unpredictable days where I'm very dizzy or in a fog where I can't seem to function or have pain and exhaustion so I've had to change my diet and how I live significantly. For 6 months I've eliminated sugar, dairy and gluten and eat a primarily vegetarian diet with occasional lean protein mixed in. I've increased my water intake to 3 litres a day and use Himalayan pink salt in all my cooking. I have to increase my sodium intake to keep my blood pressure up.
For the last 6 months I'm slowly getting less and less dizzy days, my exhaustion is manageable and I can function a lot better. I've lost 2 stone in weight and with regular exercise each week, I'm developing toned muscles and a stamina I've not experienced before. I do still have symptoms but not as often as before and not as intense so I know what I'm doing is working. I'm also under doctor observation too if anyone wonders - I go to a clinic for people like myself with POTS so I have access to doctor advice whenever needed which has been really helpful.
So I'm posting this here to anyone who has what I have and is trying to figure out how to function - if you can get off sugar dependency and dairy and gluten then it makes a huge difference!
I eat lots of little mini meals in a day and have adapted to having green tea after my meals as I find it helps my digestion too.
Anyway I'm posting this to offer hope to anyone just starting out changing their diet or exercise in order to get better as its taken 6 months to really start to notice that my lifestyle changes are having really good results! I didn't go into this lifestyle change to lose weight but being a healthy weight for my size also makes a big difference in my symptoms so I'm convinced more and more that our addiction to sugary, dairy, bready things is what's so bad for us.
Good luck to anyone just starting out with a dietary lifestyle change and don't give up......it takes a few months but its so worth it if you can keep going!
