I suffered from that some years back, and in my case, it was directly related to eating too much bread and carbohydrates; my gut was just full of stodge so was unable to process everything easily.
Drink more water - all helps the general plumbing, and eat more fresh fruit (including skins for apples etc) and more fresh vegetables.
I felt so much better when I gave up bread completely for a while (substitute wraps, crisp-breads, and rice-cakes), and ate more high fibre foods, such as baked beans, prunes, figs etc.
I particularly like dried fruit (I used to mix a bag of cranberries, raisins, chopped dried apricots with some pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and a few nuts - makes a healthy snack to nibble slowly, and provides the fibre you need. Start with small amounts (a tablespoonful perhaps) as your gut isn't used to it yet.
It feels good if you can cure your own condition by eating healthily rather than relying on the health services with their pills and potions!
