One of the ways is to look at studies which tell why is it that no other animal on the planet suffer from the weight related issues except humans. Why those people who live in the wild jungle and have no idea about cell phones look so skinny? It appears as maintaining the weight is more related to the quantities, rather than the qualities. It is hard to give a specific advice to another person without knowing the particulars. But generally speaking, i think we have to learn the distinction between hunger and thirst. It very well might be the case that feeling thirst, at some point, was misplaced with hunger. Also, there is an issue with sporadic eating just because the food is available or there is nothing else to do or while socializing. The bottom line - learning your body language to get when the food is required is probably the best way to let go the weight related issues without any exercise or any dietary restrictions.
