Husband had Subdural Haematoma

husband has suffered a subdural haematoma, didn’t have a fall, just happened. He had been on Aspirin for over 20 years so they thought that might have been a factor. He had burr hole surgery to remove the clot, as causing focal seizures, he’s now home on Lacosamide, but has side effects from them, memory loss and confusion.I know it’s early days only 4 weeks since surgery.

It’s really hard being a carer and a wife, sometimes all I want to do is cry. Can anyone tell me it does get better??

this must be a terrible time for you, I was in a similar situation with my husband 3 years ago, he has slowly got better, but it’s so hard to begin with, you need lots of patience and you need to look after yourself, if you can spend a little bit of time just for you, make sure you eat well and get plenty of rest. You will need to do this so you can be strong for your husband. Don’t be afraid to see your GP if you need more support. It’s ok to cry

Thank you for replying, yes a lot of patience is definitely needed, I am managing to get some sleep now, and am eating ok. Managed to go shopping yesterday, left him for an hour and all was ok, but my phone was in my pocket just in case. I know it’s going to take a while for him to recover

That sounds really positive, it will be baby steps but you and he will get there 🥰🥰

Hi Nanny, I suffered a sub dermal hematoma after hitting my head 5 yrs ago . Wasn't as bad as your husband's and didn't need surgery. Some of the side effects for me were depression, anxiety mood swings, feeling off balance , dizziness, the Dr. said it your brain repairing itself . He also said there's no treatments, after some research I found that their is something you can do . Please research this book by Dr Michael Lewis , When Brains Collide, he has a protocol using Omega-3 fish oil and CBD to heal the brain, I used it and it really did wonders in my recovery. Hope this helps .
