Hiya I am VENRAD!! :D

music4life_venrad-yt profile image

I ruin everything that I try and achieve. My mind is telling me to do 100 different things at once so my brain just shuts off from overload. How to make the noise quiet?

hi why don’t you just try and do one thing at a time? We only have a pair of hands that is two hands to hold something and one to cover something. If you try to do too many things, it’s obvious that you will not achieve your goals. I understand that you want to do lots of different things all at the same time, but that’s not possible. You’re going to catch yourself so worn out you’re not going to be able to do anything. Sit down write a list of the things you want to do today then number one you go and do it when it’s finished you feel good about it. then you move on to number two so on and so forth until finally you have completed your list if it’s not done in the day what the hell? Just follow the list and takeoff and put a little heart on what you have achieved achievement is not about how many things you do in a day, achievement is when you complete the task and you feelm elated

God bless you love Liz

Hi VENRAD.

I totally get it, I’m very much in this boat too.

First off, to try and settle your mind BEFORE attempting to do the things you’ve set your heart on doing, what about trying a form of meditation. If you haven’t already, that is. There’s plenty of different approaches you can try including:

mindfulness - where you zone in on what is happening right now in this moment around you, noticing what you’re experiencing moment to moment

Sensory meditations mainly visual and sound

visual - focusing on one spot or a candle for example.

Sound - listening to special meditative music, or binaural beats that have been shown to positively affect the brain as well as simply going out to Nature and listening to birds, wind in the trees, water rushing in a stream or lapping on the shore (or find these sounds on YouTube).

Breathwork - which as the name suggests, means you concentrate on specific breathing exercises all with the aim of changing how you feel, calming the nervous system, slowing things down (all types of meditation positively affect breathing but you could just focus solely on breath)

Yoga Nidra (my favourite) also known as Non Sleep Deep Rest NSDR - you get really relaxed usually lying down and are guided to gradually relax even further as you move your attention to different parts of the body. I’ve found this to be really beneficial. You can find people who are quite scientific with it (Andrew Huberman of Huberman Labs among others) or the softer, more spiritual side if you search for Yoga Nidra - there are plenty on YouTube and places.

The other suggestion is to look for any advice, practices or meditations that help the VAGUS NERVE, as this is the largest and most important nerve in the body that goes from the brain around all the organs of the body and so affects all the systems of the body. It is a main player in the ‘rest and digest’ mode that we need to be in to feel calm and relaxed.

I was going to give more tips regarding the ADHD but I think I’ve written enough for now (got hyper focused on meditation 🤦🏽‍♀️😂).

That’s my biggest tip: calm the mind first - and then look at making a list and perhaps finding an app or method to help you stick to one thing at a time, using timers etc. Also look for any tips from the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT side of things as this helps you sort out how you personally deal with tasks and perhaps help up I identify ways to make small adjustments.

A really final point. If you’re in the U.K.- you can self-refer to get CBT from your local NHS Talking Therapies team. Your GP practice will have details or you’ll probably be able to find online. It’s not for everyone but it did help me some.

Phew!

Good luck - just know that you’re not alone on this so keep coming back here for support as I (and I’m sure plenty others here too) know firsthand how frustrating and demoralising it is to not to be able to achieve your plans and goals due to attention problems.

Tx

not sure of your back ground but the Headspace App has helped me so much .. Infact I’m gobsmacked how I’ve calmed my very wonky brain down .. give it a go and let us know how it goes .. make the effort at doing the daily ideas that they recommend .. it takes no time at all .. very much wish I’d seen this even before my accident ..Sue 🙂
