Hi, I just wondered if i could get any advice or anything really. My Mum had a stroke two years ago at 39 years old. She has been left with cognitive and emotional difficulties. I am just wondering if anyone has recieved any support with this and if so if they don't mind sharing how they got it.

I'm thinking a neuro psychologist would be able to help your mum. I saw one after my stroke and she gave me some coping strategies ro help with my short term memory problems.
Have you tried this helpline Moo ?

Hope this helps. Aftercare is thin on the ground after brain injury but the Stroke Association, or Headway helpline on freephone 0808 800 2244, may have some ideas..
Best wishes for better days ahead for your mum. . . Cat x
Hi Moo
Here are a couple of additional sites that can provide some info...
bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo...
brainandspine.org.uk/suppor...
Also depending on the area where you there may be some independent support available.
You might also want to consider local/national 'carer support' networks ?
There are also a variety of social media groups where people share experiences etc.
Take care

Community neuro rehab team.....my sister had to fight for this for me...it wasn't mentioned at discharge from hospital. Plus Headway.
It's going to be a long recovery.....try to look after yourself too.
All the best
hi moo ,stroke aftercare is very thin on the ground, basically it’s a postcode lottery.I would make an appointment with her GP Surgery and go with her , as gP is her first port of call, for referrals. Make notes what she is like during a typical day, eg what she can and can’t do.
I had a cerebral infarction plus multiple TIA’s ( stroke and mini stroke without the physical deformities). It took me 8 years and a change of doctors to get some support.
It is quite possible she is suffering from some kind of mental health problems on top of her stroke problems.
She’s been diagnosed with depression and is on medication but I’m concerned she is struggling with more than depression. But she doesn’t realise it.
I agree that you should go with your mum to the GP and explain the symptoms and ask to be referred to rehab. Don't let them write everything off as depression - that can be too easily done. But you can give Headway a call first and ask for their advice. I'm assuming you're not too old (no offence to intended - but it's a lot to deal with, caring for someone in this boat) so please feel free to keep posting here for support.
Best of luck.
