thanks for all your advice. My husband is still unconcious and in and out of sedation due to issues with blood pressure. He has been moving his feet, limbs and head with stimulus but still hasn’t woke up. He is going to have a brain scan today. I am paralysed with fear today. Any advice /positive thoughts much appreciated.

Hi good luck with the scan. He is being sedated for good reason and this hopefully will aid his eventual recovery.

As for the scan, whatever it finds it is best to know what you are dealing with. Whatever damage is done has already been done. Now is the time to find what is there.

Even whatever they find it will probably not be as bleak as first appears. With the knowledge they can plan his treatment.

Blundly just treating him is not a great way to go trust me.

Try to keep positive , and remember to get your own rest. You will need to be fit to aid his recovery.

Oh another thing take down notes of what the doctors say so as to look back and digest what they actually have said. My wife found this helpful and gave her chance to comprehend what was happening.

Sorry for long reply,

Pax

At this time (really early days) one step forward two/three back is par for the brain injury course.

Of course you're frightened m'love, but odds are the doctors will regulate your husband's blood pressure and have a clearer idea how to proceed after his scan.

This 'Wait & See' period was described by my family as torture, but most of us do come through one way or another...

Trust in the doctors ; they're skilled and have dealt with this situation many times....

Hope there's positive news soon Lunalg. Cat. x

Good morning. Hopefully the scan will be OK and is just a precaution. My partner was taken for a few, usually through the night when the hospital was quieter. Are they monitoring the pressure inside his head? If they are worried about swelling of the brain it is a fine balance between blood pressure and cranial pressure as lower BP reduces swelling, but too low is dangerous so it's something that is constantly adjusted. What have the doctors told you about his BP? Ask as many questions as you can because the doctors, and especially the critical care nurses can answer a lot of questions much better than anyone here. I asked about every piece of equipment my partner was hooked up to and every tube I saw. If a nurse didn't have the answer I asked to speak to a doctor for the answers. They can't tell you how your husband will be when he wakes up, but they can tell you everything about his treatment and why they are doing what they are doing. Best of luck!

Its harder to be looking on than being sedated. Trust me!

When they brought me out of my medically induced coma, the first thing I did was rip off the monitors and oxygen supply and had to be put back under.

The dreams I had were real to me and I can still recall some of the adventures.

Many weeks later I still couldnt operate a mobile phone or talk properly and yet another operation brought me back to my old self.

So stick with it. It hard and there are no guarantees of full or even part recovery, But do keep us informed and use this forum as your outlet for questions, fears and other things. We are with you.
