Driving Insurance

Hi,

does anyone know if driving insurance is increased when notified of diagnosis of epilepsy. I lost my licence for a year although I had only had one seizure and have had my licence returned now. I do take an anti-convulsant but have never had another seizure. Any comments would be gratefully received. Thanks

Yes it does go up a bit as they look at it that your a greater risk but as long as you don't get any more it comes down again

Thanks. So as it's been 4 years since I had my seizure it shouldn't make too much difference

No it shouldn't but everything keeps going up all the I had my Sizures back in 2001 and got a Vp in my Head as long as nothing happens with my health my insurace stays the same

The change is not having the enthusiasm to try things out and forgetting things an I have lost the spèd that I do things at also only go local places as fear of getting lost

I have just renewed my insurance at no extra cost. I was able to say that i had a licence issued with no restrictions so was able to insure at original price. But I agree with you that the prices go up each year rather than reward loyalty or good driving.

I hope that you don't anyway but never auto renew and always look for a new deal via a comparison website. I never have the same insurers two years running for anything. Loyalty these days just means overpaying.

That's exactly what I did and got £165 off the price that was asked for renewal. They did then drop the price a bit but not enough.

so long as you are open and honest with your insurance company & they have access to your medical records. It should not make any difference.

I was surprised when I replied to the question about medical conditions with the drop down option of DVLA informed . Licenced issued no restrictions. The insurance companies were quite happy.

It pays to do the right thing with motor insurance. I sat out driving for 18 months (surrendered my licence) when changing from paper copy to card licence . I didn't need to take that course of action and just wished that I'd put the forms in but I didn't want to risk a revoke which I'd read was a bigger problem if that was the unfortunate outcome. Thankfully I got the ok with no restrictions and just tick the DVLA aware box as you do.

I agree. It really isn't worth the risk of having an accident of some sort and the insurance company saying you weren't insured as you hadn't declared a medical condition. Peace of mind when you are honest.

True. I have to make sure that all of the bases are covered and that's the only way that I can sleep. I do sometimes wish that I didn't have such a conscience.
