My husband was taken into hospital last night for an emergency appendectomy. I freaking out a bit as he was taken for surgery at 9.00 and is still in theatre. Anyone know how long this op normally takes please? x

Anyone had their appendix out?
I had mine removed about 40 years ago so no recollection of timeframe.
My guess is your husband was stabilised with painkilling meds whilst he was caught in a queue in A&E or the prep room. I've been delayed for more than 24hrs on two occasions when RTA or other serious trauma cases have taken precedence.
They're probably fully stretched and running late, but phone reception and tell them you're concerned. Let us know how you get on ; hope all's well. x
Thanks very much Cat. I have now heard from him by text and he's back on the ward. So hopefully all is well. I was feeling really anxious because he's not allowed visitors (due to Covid situation) and I couldn't get through by phone. But I'm feeling more positive now. Thanks again.

It's a weird time for hospital patients and their loved ones so I'm glad you're back in touch with one another. Does your man know how long he's in for ?
Mine was removed after an ovarian cyst burst one New Years eve and the surgeon decided he 'might as well' remove my appendix whilst he was 'in there' ! I was in for 10 days but that was in the 70s. I had my gall bladder removed in 2012 and I was in and out the same day after keyhole surgery. x
