Hi Folks,

This picture here is a friend of mine.

It can be difficult to draw people over animals but I think this is one of the good human+drawings :).

That's great. I really love the detail that you put into the hair and the eyes are excellent too. 🎨

Glamorous friends you have Matt ! I hope she's seen the drawing and appreciates your work. Lovely portrait ; really detailed and lifelike. It really is one of the 'good ones' ……though I haven't seen a bad one yet ! xx

Aw thank you Cat :).

I posted this picture on facebook and one of my other friends said “Who is this beautiful woman? Is she one of the Bronte sisters?”

I’m afraid she was wrong though. There is a café I visit regularly and she works there, that is how know her.

One day, I showed her a couple of my drawings, she really liked them and I said I did commissions and drew people’s pets and she said “Can you draw a picture for me?”

I said I would and I assumed she wanted me to draw her pet.

She showed me the photo of what I would be drawing and it was of herself.

Not quite a pet then haha.

Hope she has it in the tasteful frame it deserves ! Think I've mentioned one time that I used to make frames of all styles, colours & sizes...….in the days when my dexterity was still intact... x

Well, I don’t know if the picture is in the tasteful frame it deserves though.

You did mention once that you used to make frames and I am sure I told you that I usually buy cheap frames that cost around £2 :).

8 was buying these frames that were around £2 but a few pennies cheaper than some other frames.

Thing was, these were certificate frames and they didn’t have the wooden stand at the back.

But I also found that where these frames were cheaply made, the metal clips at the sides on the back that hold the picture all together would rip off the frame quite easily.

So obviously I was not happy with this and am now spending a few pennies more on durable frames.

I still have a little supply of poorly-made, cheap frames at the moment and am trying to get rid of them one by one.

So whenever I sell some art/frame, I choose the cheaper frames until I can move onto my slightly-expensive frames.

Some of these poor frames have clips missing but not all clips. So on the areas that do have clips missing I have put masking tape over it to keep it a little more secure.

I’ve sold all of these poor frames now but just have one other cheap frame that I got from a charity shop once. The clips on it are fine, it is not poorly-made but like the certificate frames has no stand at the back.

But the only trouble is, the frame was labeled as an A4 frame and it is A4 but it’s a tiny bit too small for my A4 drawings.

I guess the only way I can pass that is if I were to trim the edges of a picture with my craft knife :).

Anyhow, after that and I am back to the slightly-expensive frames with added stand at back :).

Once you've had the outlay for tools and materials it's surprisingly cheap to produce really strong, good quality frames of any size.

I live in a Victorian terraced house where natural daylight is limited, so to maximise it I made three 5ft x 3ft mirrors, two with pale-wash frames and one painted to match the walls.

They're extremely heavy but still hanging soundly after 30 years and make a massive difference by reflecting light into darker areas such as the stairwell and from one room to another.

And, naturally, all my picture frames are home made ! Buying the mouldings from a wood yard rather than a DIY store halves the cost and you can get perfect invisible mitres with a cheap mitre block and PVA glue.

Something for the future Maybe Matt.... 🔳 x

Hi Matt, its always a highlight for me to see your latest creations, thank you for them. How long did this one take?

Really fantastic, its a pleasure and an inspiration for others to see.

Regards

Ric
