Hi,

TRU is the most amazing place. They work with clients on a 1 - 1 basis. They try to introduce some normality into life, e.g. banking & budgeting. They take clients out to pictures, bowling, for meals etc. They are an amazing group of individuals who help to restore some normality into life. You could do so much worse than go there.

Is it privately run ? I can't imagine such treatment from the NHS. :o

Hi cat3, It is privately run however we were so very lucky and got funding from Continuing Health Care. There is nothing on the NHS which would have met Pete's needs.

Thanks for that info Flintdog. I know little about aftercare as, although my hospital care was amazing, on discharge I was told my first point of contact from then on would be my GP. She was completely clueless, but fortunately I

learned to cope by myself and 2&1/2 years on I can pass for normal !

It's good to hear that your Pete is receiving such good care and I hope his recovery takes him from strength to strength. Take care of yourself also .......

That is such good news to hear that you have found somewhere clearly offering a great rehab service for BI. I've just looked it up on the Web and does sound great but your recommendation is even better. Sadly increases my frustration though that in my bit of GB the services are scant and those that are available under resourced, not very skilled and can only offered limited involvement which doesn't take you far on your road of recovery ...... and then your left to try and find the road ahead yourself ......an impossible task.

We had a stay in a supposed rehabilitation unit which was NHS funded and to put it politely it was rubbish. When they wanted to move Pete on, we were lucky enough to screen in for continuing Health Care and after a visit to the unit opted for TRU. There are clients in there from all over the country, in fact on the news today there was a male from Wiltshire who has now relocated to continue to be looked after by TRU. Hope this helps. Keep fighting.

Thank you Flintdog for your response. Well done for getting Pete moved to TRU and it is great to hear how good that decision has turned out to be. What I need is community resources but will keep searching. Best wishes for Pete's continued road of recovery.

Hi Flintdog,

Many thanks for sharing your positive experience of TRU.

Those looking for high quality rehabilitation and long-term care after brain injury might also be interested in Headway's 'Approved Provider Scheme', which accredits units against a number of criteria set by Headway.

You can find out more and search for a unit at: headway.org.uk/approved-car...

Best wishes,
