Hi, I used to sleepwalk as a child and grew out of it at about puberty, it had nothing to do with a head injury, my abi only occurred 18 months ago at the age of 59. Janet

Many people sleep walk, not sure if it can be linked with a brain injury but maybe it can. The good news is though that you don't do it now

Oh thank goodness........I thought it was just me. I had a subarachnoid haemorrhage in Dec 2011 and after I was moved from intensive care to the rehab ward I was told by other patients that I'd stood, in the dark, staring through a window for 10 minutes or so, all the while failing to respond to their voices. They rang for a nurse but I was back in my bed when she arrived and not too happy when she woke me to check if I was ok.

This happened on subsequent nights but, as our every move was carefully monitored, I asked the others not to alert the nursing staff or make an issue of it, as I thought it might interfere with my discharge. I remembered nothing of my night-time pursuits, but was told that I never seemed to endanger myself ..........just stared through the window and sighed quite a lot !

I'd never sleep-walked (to my knowledge) in my life before this.

When I got home I found evidence of bedroom items having been moved during the night, which was a little bit spooky, but after a few more weeks everything seemed to revert to normal. I mentioned it to my consultant during my recall appointment and he told me he'd encountered sleepwalking after brain-trauma in quite a few patients & it was something they didn't really understand but assumed it was part of the 'rewiring' process.

Hope you're ok at the moment, dillm. Love Cat x
