Hi fellow brain damaged souls, I suffered a brain injury in Xmas 2001fell 30ft & the main damage was a large intra-cerebral haematoma (blot clot inside brain). The clot had to be surgically removed & then I woke up to a life of paranoia. Was diagnosed in Oct' 2002 with paranoia psychosis but did not have any learning disabilities & had painful muscle spasms down the right side of my body. Have mild now problems with my lexicon (language) too. So I was left back in life on anti psychotics & thought I could manage & attempted independence. But went on to fail in what I had an illusion of what I thought I was doing right. Lost most of my friends & turned out I should have had better psychological & psychiatric treatment if any, which the psychologist I first saw fail to do. Turns out now I am getting the right treatment I suffer from chronic depression & anxiety, plus am getting the right medication for my muscle pain. Am on meds for the depression too, now. I have been described as having neurobehavioural disabilities but a friend of mine who also suffered a TBI, & now has a PhD in Sociology & a degree in Law, it should be described as cognitive or perceptual disabilities. He gave me better knowledge that my brain was damaged in far more places than just where the clot was because of the 30ft fall. I'm lost in a lot of ways & would like to chat with more TBI people because I have found no real support in the NHS. What you are tested for does not run equally to what society has to offer which is so different to what was comprehended before the accident. I hope all are keeping on the path of life & enjoying every step of the way because we were given another chance to put our mark on this wonderful planet :0)

sorry to hear all that and welcome to the group

you are absolutely right the difference between tests and symptoms, and what help is actually available, i think to an extent we have to mend ourselves, by learning what helps us, we can get advice from specialist who understand the logistics of a brain injury but not the actual devastation even some of the minor effects cause. and are left to fend for ourselves.

i have had more understanding of the effects of brain injury from some of the non brain injured members here and from headway staff, than i have had from any consultant.

i see consultants a bit like dodgy mechanics, they get your engine running again, but the broken windows, tears in the seats dodgy electrics are your problem to deal with, as long as they get the engine running, thats all that matters

you will find a lot of good people, advice and shared experience here.

Love your description of the scruffy motor vehicle as us hahahaha I've been following the website for quite a while but only just thought it was time I spoke properly. I've had advice from Headway too about my quarter blindness that I didn't mention only found that out the other week at opticians but was never told by consultants I could have partially lost my site I wondered why I've been banging my head alot on things to the top right for 12 years heehee Oh you've just gone a bit blind mate. Hope you are having good times mate :0)

Hello hun... just reading your post and i think to myself..another case of , "he is just like me" as in your impairments due to a bang on the heeed..

Thing is no one gets it except folk on here. All my family just leave me to it so do consultants and it is so hard sometimes coz you personally no your weaknesses and the things that arnt the same and have to cope with them. Metal, sight, hearing, strength, memory and on on on are ALL AFFECTED.I had a TBI a frontal lobe bleed in 2009. You will find support on here if you can remember headway is available. i keep forgetting.she smiles

It has felt like the world has turned up everything to intense power when I'm a limp lettuce leaf. I'm only just starting to get to grips with my own wave length but that's through a variety of people & other websites. I learnt one thing though no matter what is technically said to happen is not the whole truth because they can't properly tell all the damage that was done to your brain. They all have their own little theories but no one knows it better than you. I had better knowledge of what was happening to my dad when he was dying of cancer, before my accident, than the well paid dr's did, so if they want to go on bet about who knows better I'm up for it, heehee.
