Hi - anyone got any favourites? Am interested in baking, breadmaking and day-to-day meals plus occasional entertaining. What makes a book your favourite? Any favourite recipes? Have spent some time researching but it is difficult to choose! Thank you,
Daz

I was told that Phil Vickery is really good. But when I read the reviews they mentioned errors. Can you please let me know which book you have as I've been looking for recipe books for basic cakes, biscuits, scones and pofiteroles - the type of things I've been making for years but have tasted awful with gf flour so far!
Have you a local library? It would be worth checking to see if they've got any suitable books so you could try before you buy, I know my local library had loads.
For baking I recommend the gluten free baker (cant remember who by but you can get it on amazon). It's great and all the recipes turn out well. I personally dont like Phil vickerys books so mine just collect dust on the shelf! I also use just a normal Delia Smith book and just substitute the flour accordingly
Take a look on Amazon..for the writer, broadcast and chef...Michelle Berriedale Johnson...the lady who is editor of Foods Matter...an on line resource for allergies of all types. She is a very creative cook...and has published often.....
One of the books I have has a picture of a glorious pie ..good enough to take a knife and fork to immediately...and its gluten free....yes ..that good....take a look...
This book takes you back to basics..and introduces the different flours..how to guard against cross contamination.,,plus there are things for entertaining...etc.
Treat yourself??
Yes I do know Michelle...she's a lady well worth knowing...what she doesnt know about allergies...aint worth knowing....she is resourceful...(and not just for food problems...)
I have a collection of cook books at home..maybe 500 or so..from different countries...plus some Victorian ones..from Delia to James...and my family books...
Hi DazR, honestly I just use google! I type in 'gluten free (insert) recipe' and then see what comes up. I usually avoid any recipes using xanthan gum/guar gum as I don't personally tolerate that. Also, I just adapt my own old wheat flour recipes to a mix of rice flour and ground almonds. It has worked fine thus far and all the non-coeliacs have loved the results and said they enjoyed the moist texture and that they wouldn't have known it wasn't made with wheat flour. I therefore don't see the need to buy a specifically gf cookery book. Many traditional savoury recipes don't call for glutenfull items (and if they do you can substitute or leave it out).
