Gluten free cosmetics

I bought this face wash but am a bit worried as coco glucoside seems to come from wheat, although I cant find any evidence of this online. It also doesn't come up in any lists of gluten ingredients to avoid in cosmetic products.

What so you guys think?

Urgh....I put a question on amazon - "does it contain gluten? I know it doesn't have to be labelled with allergens as it's not for consumption, but as it is a facial product there is a chance a small amount could be consumed" - one person said it was gluten free but didn't say how they knew this. And the rest have all made fun of me for "eating the product". Its so ignorant its pissing me right off!

Hi Flowerpot108,I honestly don’t know but like you I take no chances. It is complete ignorance from companies and people. Several people on here make their own toiletries. In the past I’ve just used sugar and coconut oil as a facial scrub or just good old fashioned water. 🐳

That’s really interesting! I don’t have answer about the wheat derived ingredient but just wanted to say Thanks for putting an ingredients list pic. just spotted ‘xanthan gum’ from soybean! Going to look up whether that means all xanthan gum comes from soy too. I don’t do well with soy either.

Just found this article regards xanthan gum. I had no idea xanthan gum that’s used a lot in gluten free products as well can come from soy, wheat, corn or milk. So anyone sensitive to these as well as wheat gluten might need to consider.foodsmatter.com/allergy_int...

Interesting. Never would have considered this an issue. I found article on Healthline that states this:

"Xanthan gum is derived from sugar. The sugar can come from many different places, including wheat, corn, soy and dairy. People with severe allergies to these products may need to avoid foods containing xanthan gum unless they can determine what source the xantham gum came from."

So this blows the argument out of the water that glucose, frustose and dextrous are in anyway safe for coeliac. If xanthum gum is derived from the wheat based sugar, and can still cause issue, what does that say about the wheat based sugars that we are told are so processed that they are ok?

The more I journey on the coeliac journey the more I despise the lies we are constantly told. I have yet to have a straight answer on what the issue is for glucose/fructose/dextrose in the UK - does it have to, or does it not have to, state what the source of the sugar is? Bonkers.

From what I can see online coco-glucoside is made from coconut and sugar. The glucoside bit is the bit that is probably wheat derived as glucosides are sugars that are obtained from glucose. Glucose can be wheat derived. This will be so processed that the reality of gluten will probably be non-existent. Unless (without mirroring your Amazon ghouls) you eat it, it's perfectly safe as gluten can not be asborbed through the skin.

I think you overestimate the amount of gluten in such cosmetics. Even if your item contains it, it's unlikely that it will hurt you.

I think you overestimate the amount of gluten in such cosmetics. Even if your item contains it, it's unlikely that it will hurt you. Based on the cosmetics industry reportlinker.com/ci02135/Co... report, all huge manufacturers aim to decrease the self-cost of their products. Thereby, don't expect 100% natural non-allergic products within mass-market. You can buy handmade cosmetics, but the cost will be twice as much, if not even more. Is it worth it if you'll not be able to tell the difference? I guess it depends on your income. As for me, I haven't extra money to overpay.
