Hi folks. I was diagnosed coeliac about 5 years ago, following blood tests and endoscopy. I need to get some bloods done. What bloods should I ask for to check I am managing my diet well? I think it is IgA, and tTG? Next question is what should the results look like if I’m managing it well? I have no idea if the numbers should be low or high. Thanks for any advise you can give me. 🙂

Blood tests
Hello ClaireW80, I am newly diagnosed so have been looking at everything and making notes. Per the British Society of Gastroenterology annual checks:-
Once the disease is stable and the patients manage their diet without any problems, annual follow-ups should be initiated. The physician should check on intact small intestinal absorption
full blood count,
ferritin,
serum folate,
vitamin B12,
calcium,
alkaline phosphatase
associated autoimmune conditions (thyroid-stimulating hormone and thyroid hormone(s),
and serum glucose),
liver disease (aspartate aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase)40 and
dietary adherence (anti-TG2 or EMA/DGP), although the sensitivity and specificity of the latter cannot substitute for structured dietary interview.
The results should also list the reference ranges. The thyroid group on here are experts on results.
Hi ClaireW80 Nellie has given you a very comprehensive reply and what I do is rock up at my Dr’s ask for annual coeliac blood test and the practice nurse takes a blood sample. I’ve been diagnosed over 25 years and don’t ask for the results as I’ve earned a badge for being a blood donor in the last 10 years but my GP likes me to have a full blood screen and I comply.
If you are deplete in iron or vitamin D etc they send out a letter or ring you and advise whether to take a supplement or have further tests.
So good luck. 😊
I am under the care of a hospital gastroenterologist and each year I get a blood test and an appointment with the specialist (this year by telephone)
