Hi, has anyone experienced nightmares after taking Monopost eye drops? I have advanced glaucoma, and am about to be registered sight impaired. After many years of pressures being controlled by surgery, I've now had to start taking these eye drops daily, and have nightmares every night, unless I don't put them in. Just wondering if this is a common side effect?

Monopost
Hi Lottieruby I used monopost for many years before moving on to other drops then surgery. I can't remember a side effect of nightmares. Must be horrid for you.
Thanks Astilbe for your reply! Yes, it's distressing, probably need to speak to consultant.
I have Monopost one drop per eye every night - no nightmares here!
Sorry to hear that….my nightmare is wondering WHAT HAPPENS when i regularly forget my one drop a night of Monoprost…can i catch up with doing it in the morning?
I have had strange vivid dreams at night. I wondered if it was the Monopost drops or the statins I take. I don’t know how common this is. I have raised eye pressures. I will check if this is a side effect when I go for my next check up. I don’t know what the alternative would be if I stopped the drops. Not pleasant to have disturbed sleep.
Thanks for your reply, I also take statins. Wonder if it's a combination of the two?
I take atorvastatin 10 mg. I have tried stopping the statin for a week to see if it was the statin but couldn’t see a great difference. I also find my moods are affected sometimes. Would love an expert opinion. I will also check with GP but don’t want to change medications and get worse symptoms. Good luck.
You will have a leaflet with your prescription which shows side effects. Nightmares aren't one of them 😊
Just checked atorvastatin advisory and nightmares are an unusual symptom but no mention on Monopost advisory. Lottieruby has experienced nightmares whilst recently taking Monopost and is also taking atorvastatin. Perhaps it is a combination of the two drugs that causes this.
I don’t really talk to my GP because he is so difficult to get hold of or get an appointment with. I don’t really have a lot of faith in his knowledge. I will raise it with the eye clinic and when I get my health check with surgery nurse. Please let me know if you find out if there is a connection.
I didn't have nightmares with monopost but I did with Azarga. But I do hae very vivid dreams with brinzolamide.
I use them and, no, sorry,
Hi,
I have used Monopost for a year now with no nightmares. I hope you find a solution, good luck
I started on Monopost in January and had terrible nightmares waking up screaming every night. But I blamed the Trusopt, which I had started at same time. Consultant later confirmed the Trusopt is probably to blame. After 2 weeks, nightmares largely stopped ( about 1 a month now). Not sure how long you've been on it, but if recently then it might br worth persisting.
I've been on monopost for 8 months now, after last surgery failed to reduce pressures, nightmares have increased as time has gone on. I understand when you say you wake up screaming, it's awful. It may not be the drops, but it is helping me to understand, reading the account you've shared, thankyou.
If my eye drops caused nightmares, I would stop them completely for 10 - 14 days to see if that stopped the nightmares. If it did, I would then resume the drops to see if the nightmares came back. That way, you would have a very good idea if they were the cause. If so, I would then go back to the consultant ophthalmologist who prescribed the drops and ask for an alternative. When I started glaucoma treatment some years ago, I went through a whole gamut of eye drops, until eventually, the consultant said we had tried everything, and must now try surgical intervention. He inserted Xen implants into both eyes, and they did the trick. If I had known in advance, I would have asked for them at the beginning, rather than have all the bother of different drops. I don't think stopping your drops short term would cause damage to your eyes - but I am only a layman - but that is what I did more than once. I wouldn't bother with a GP. Go to the specialist.
