Monopost and Hydrosan

I have OHT and have been using Monopost for several months. I have been using Vaseline around my eyes but they now have a sunken appearance and dark circles. My eyes are dry overnight and in the morning after using the drops. I have recently suffered with a sore eye and ear infection after using Hydrosan drops to relieve my dry eyes. Is it the combination of Monopost and Hydrosan or just a coincidence that my left eye (which has the higher OHT) became sore? Has anyone else had this problem? Is laser treatment a better option?

Hi, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I've found that prolonged use of Monopost which I use every night in my right eye does give the eyes a sunken appearance - the drops are so strong that they seem to destroy the surrounding skin or I guess eat up the collagen or somesuch. I have learned to be clever with concealer! The soreness is an issue from using Monopost which, like all these prescribed drops to keep pressures down, dries out the eyes. My ophthalmologist at Moorfields recommends Theoloz Duo which I use about 50 times a day!! And a more gel-like individual vial at night, Celluvisc 1%. Both of these can be bought at pharmacies but if your ophtho prescribes them you could get them from your doctor on a regular basis. Oh and I also apply a thin eye cream under the eye first thing and last thing. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your advice. Everyone says they can't see any difference but I can. I use Vaseline under my eyes as another poster suggested and eye creams. My left eye is the sore one. It is the problem eye but I use drops in both eyes. Glad I wear glasses. I will investigate your suggestions. Were you offered laser treatment? I haven't been offered it but have been using Monopost for about four months. I believe other drops cause problems too. Will discuss with hospital when I have my review in a few months.

Hi again, yes all drops cause problems: redness, soreness, itchiness. So we have to do what we can to counteract. I have had stents in my right eye to help prevent sight loss and Tiopex a.m. and Monopost p.m. to further keep damage at bay. The worse eye is my left eye, and I've had surgery - a trabulectomy - for that, as well as now taking Tiopex a.m. There are different options aside from drops, including laser, but your specialist is the person who will advise the best route for you. Laser wasn't suitable for me but it might be for you. Good luck.

Thank you. So nice when people take the trouble to help.

If we all help one another there is a lot of good advice we can share! The NHS is just too busy to give us all the useful info there is out there.

Hi, Sadly most drops seem to cause problems with the eyes, although, not everyone suffers from that. I was on Latanoprost for 6 months for ocular hypertension and coped quite well, before having SLT. This has reduced the pressures but I do have very dry eyes now and take Hycosan extra to help, although, interestingly, my left eye suffers the most from dryness and feeling sore. I do hope you are offered SLT if it's appropriate, I had no issues during or after the procedure and hope that it lasts a reasonable time. Good luck on your journey.
