monopost and fatigue/ melancholy

hi there,

I am still fairly new and have been struggling to keep up with putting the drops in until recently as I have been confirmed a diagnosis of glaucoma in both eyes. Still at early stages.

I had latanoprost to begin with and this felt uncomfortable, and now have mono spot drops , they feel better although I feel my eyes are quite strange afterwards and I have been feeling really tired since putting them in more regularly. Could that be a side effect that is not on the notice?

it is also bringing a feeling of melancholy- although hard to know if it’s linked to the drops of course!

I know the doctors will probably say that it can’t be linked but I am wondering … and my I can trust my body…

I am curious if anyone has experienced anything like that?

Any alternatives to drops?

I am still searching for more natural options… has anyone tried eye yoga? Any herbs that can help?

Thank you!

Yes, I find Monopost do make my eyes sore. I use them at night and in the morning my eyes feel red and sore but it wears off after a while. It also gives eyes a sunken appearance. I know what you mean about the melancholy feeling. I’m not sure if it is the drops or just worry issues about eye health that cause depression. Some days are worst than others but I can’t find a link with using Monopost perhaps someone more informed could advise. From what I have seen, all the drops seem to cause problems but there is no alternative and Monopost seems least problematic.

I tried monopost which is the is lantanoprost perservetive free .. I could nt use them had Sinus

Problems/wheezing/ headache /neck pain feeling generally unwell

I started taking Lantanoprost preservative free Lotacryn. I m not getting hardly any side affects now just a bit of a blocked nose ..

As it’s a new condition it sometimes takes time to get ur head around it , can make u feel anxious . when trying to find drops that work for you .. I felt the same and it is very frustrating.. speak to ur eye doctor and be firm about the way u feel ..

All the best for a good outcome with ur meds ..

Hello, Monopost can cause eye irritation. It is worth mentioning to the eye doctor about the tiredness you are feeling. There are many different eye drops available for glaucoma but they are prescribed according to the severity of the glaucoma and the individual response. Please continue using the eye drops as advised by your doctor. Wishing you all the best.

I find this an interesting comment about feeling depressed when waking in the morning. I’ve been using Monopost, one drop each eye at night for over a year and they are keeping the eye pressures low and no more nerve damage. So…is it the drops making me feel like this, anxious, depressed and worrying vivid dreams, making me get up to break away from the low ebb? tho would love to lie in the cozy bed! Sometimes eyes are a bit sore in the morning but can cope with that. Not sure really, but nice to share and realise other people may feel the same, tho could just be the winter blues, the short days, darkness, cold and being 77 soon! Roll on summer….

Sometimes I have strange vivid dreams too. The low feelings are difficult to share with others. Agree with all your comments. I have to remind myself that others are worse off and we are living in worrying times. Let’s look forward to the summer. Take care. This site is good for sharing worries.

And that helps a lot so with all the ups and downs. We face are wellbeing will alter

But agree long days of light and sun help

They seem to be developing new drops fairly regularly. The best alternatives, first line tx now are surgeries, lasers, migs, trabs, shunts. I've had them all. After nearly 40 years with glaucoma, 3 detached retinas, two eye infections, a cornea transplant and continued drops,4-5 tines a day, still hanging in there. I've been on/off anti-depressants for years. Mixed diagnosis, depression, anxiety, ocd. I continue to struggle with my vision daily. When I decided it was time to stop driving I went to bed for 2 days. I still struggle daily with not being able to drive after 4-5 years. I tend to think it is not the drops causing the low mood but more the fear of the unknown. As with any chronic disease it is there with you everyday. Especially with vision issues it is literally in your face everyday if you get my drift. It is a struggle,! As someone else stated, more or less. Count your blessings, it could be worse and most certainly is for many. Good luck, God bless.

I am in a similar position to you. I was put on Monopost once a day 2 months ago by my optometrist and have my first hospital appointment tomorrow. POAG in one eye and OH in the other. I'm finding it ok putting the drops in but my eyes do feel ‘different’ in a way I can't quite describe and are often tired and irritated. One thing that has helped a little is keeping them in the fridge - although not required for this type of drops it makes them less irritated and the coolness helps you feel them on your eye so you know the drop is in. I am also putting in VisuXL drops once a day for the dryness. I am super anxious and worried about how things might go from here. I think talking to people helps - but can also be triggering - so try to balance that with thinking about other things.
